Many countries owned parts of China at the time, such as Germany, Russia, Britain, France, etc. These European countries were practically owning China, which caused some people to revolt against them. They were most angry at them for taking over trading ports, and selling China goods for their own gain with China getting a very small percentage in return.

They could have handled things another way, such as if people tried to stop them, then rioting was an option. Overall, the reason behind wanting to revolt was justified, but the actions taken to get the power and money they wanted were not as justified, they could have done other things besides killing random people and destructing different buildings.

What stood out most to me was that not only was this a sketch of an European explorer, he was made into a giant, standing over the whole country of Africa. I find this a strange yet valid representation of how European explorers acted as if they owned Africa and totally paints the picture for what it was like. Another thing I took from this was the clouds surrounding Africa, maybe this could mean that "the weather is getting worse" which really means that the country of Africa is becoming a worse place since everyone is just fighting over goods and lands now.

I think this mostly represents political goals, since this depicts a picture of an explorer, over the whole country. This involves the fight over land, and trying to maintain the most power and own as much land, along with taking the most goods. It represents the wanting of power and control most explorers want when coming to these new countries. The strings whoever, that the explorer is holding, could represent social goals, for those are communication lines, which are barely hanging on due to the fact that communication is strained because of these explorers that are invading.

Overall, the Age of Imperialism did deserve a bad rap, for it left a long lasting strain between countries for years and years. Communication between people of different grounds was tarnished, for social encounters did not end up well. As for politics, it definitely left a negative effect behind. Everyone fought for lands in countries, with little stability holding politics together. Lastly, when it comes to economics, trade is still strained for their is still a feeling of uncertainty from years previously, due to how other countries used to treat others. Basically, the past haunts the future of decisions and the state of politics, economics, and social interactions, so the Age of Imperialism deserves the hate it gets.
