The domestication of dogs

It is believed that the domestication of dogs happened about 15,000 years ago (around 10,000 BC). If this is correct then that would mean that we didn't begin to domesticate animals until the Paleolithic era. So, pets would not have been around for Hominids.

The way they believe the domestication of dogs happened is simply because there was a population of wolves that began to adapt to association with humans.

Their official names are Siberian Domestic Dogs. These dogs were not what you would imagine as your average house dog. They weighed 32 kilograms on average and had a shoulder height of at least 60 centimeters. About the size of a large German Shephard.

There is a theory that the reason humans made it through the paleolithic era is due to the domestication of dogs. Dogs could have been actually quite helpful during this harsh period. They would've been able to hunt and could guard much better than the homo sapiens. After all, they did have better hearing and smelling.

Domestic dogs seemed to have actually played a large part in the lives of Homo sapiens. It is very likely that they're the reason Homo sapiens survived the Paleolithic period. They were large dogs not simple pups.
