I am currently an ESL teacher with the company teaching English to Costa Rican students from the ages of 18-40 years old. Right now I am teaching with Idioma Internacional on weekdays, a language institute in Barva on Saturdays, and I am an observer for student teachers' practicums with the International TEFL Academy. Something that excites me about teaching is the idea of possibility. The possibility to change and adapt what you're doing, the possibility that the students are going to not only learn academically but learn how to be better humans. The possibility of building relationships, of seeing other worldviews, of constantly adapting your own worldview and showing compassion and grace and empathy. And the possibility of stability. Sometimes you and your class are the only stable thing in a student's life and that matters. I’m so excited to meet/re-meet all of you. My name is Talyn Daniel, I’m originally from Arkansas, and I’m currently in Scotland finishing my Master of Education in TESOL. As for what excites me about teaching ESL – There’s so much potential for helping people change their lives, isn’t there? When I was teaching with Idioma, I was struck left and right by the brilliance of my students, by all they had to offer the world. For many of these students, the major obstacle between themselves and their goals was the English-language barrier. Helping people learn to communicate in English meant helping them to excel in an engineering course, or travel to an English-speaking country for their work, or land a higher-paying customer service job (looking at you, Amazon) so they could give their families a better life. It’s such a marvelous gift to be able to play a role, even a small one, in the happiness and success of other human beings.
