It is a linen cloth that shows the image of a man who presents marks and physical traumas typical of a crucifixion that looks like the death of our Lord Jesus. The shroud measures 436 cm × 113 cm. It is kept in Turin, Italy. In the chapel of the Holy Shroud built expressly for this purpose at the end of the 17th century (1668-1694), during the reign of Carlos Manuel I of Savoy, Duke of Savoy. A masterpiece of the Italian Baroque completed by Guarino Guarini that is located within a complex of buildings that includes the Cathedral, the Royal Palace and the Palazzo Chiablese. The origins of the shroud and its figure are the subject of debate among scientists, theologians, historians and researchers. Some maintain that the shroud is the cloth that was placed over the body of Jesus Christ at the time of his burial, and that the face that appears is his. However, the cloth has been dated by radiocarbon and places its origin in the Middle Ages (between 1260 and 1390 AD). In 1988 the Holy See authorized carbon dating of the sheet, which was carried out in three different laboratories, and the three laboratories dated the fabric between the 13th and 14th centuries (1260-1390).
