         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Internet and the World Wide Web are often misconceived to be the same thing, however, this is not the case.<br>the main differences between the World Wide Web and the Internet are:<br><br>-The Internet is a global network connecting millions of end devices, with each computer being independent <br>-The internet is decentralized<br><br>-The Web is&nbsp; a system of Internet servers that support specially formatted documents <br>-Documents are formatted in a markup language that supports links to other documents, from which&nbsp; you can jump from one document to another simply by clicking on hot spots (hyperlinks). <br><br><strong>What is Web 1?<br></strong>Web 1.0 refers to the first stage in the World Wide Web, which was entirely made up of web pages connected by hyperlinks. Although the exact definition of Web 1.0 is a source of debate, it is generally believed to refer to the web when it was a set of static websites that were not yet providing interactive content. In Web 1.0, applications were also generally proprietary.<br><br></div><div>Exactly where Web 1.0 ends and Web 2.0 begins cannot be determined as this was a change that happened gradually over time as the internet became more interactive.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What must a website be hosted on for it to be available on the Internet?:<br>All websites are hosted on servers. A server is a centralized computer which manages access to resources or services to clients.<br>What are the two different options for hosting a website? Advantages/Disadvantages:<br> You can either pay for your website to be hosted by a company, or you can set-up a computer to host the website on your own network.<br><br>It is often easier to subscribe to a hosting service, as it is already configured for you. Professional hosting also usually has better performance, as your website will be hosted in a location where the server can provide resources to clients more quickly. Hosting services also offer better security options, as well as regular backups of your files so that if anything catastrophic should happen, your website can be recovered.<br><br>The more DIY approach of creating your own server could potentially be more cost efficient, however you must keep in mind additional electricity costs and the impact it could have on your network. Often, if you are running a server from a home network the website will not be able to serve many people at one time, due to the ADSL connection in homes which limits the upload speed, and therefore how quickly resources can be provided to clients. If your server is not configured properly or does not have sufficient security measures in place, it could potentially leave your network and personal files open to attack. <br> Pricing:<br> Pricing varies drastically depending upon the services, security functions and storage space which you require.<br><br>The average range of hosting services cost between £1-£20 per month </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1965:</strong> Two computers at MIT Lincoln Lab communicate with one another using packet-switching technology. <br><strong>1968:</strong> Beranek and Newman, Inc. unveils the final version of the Interface Message Processor specifications. BBN wins ARPANET contract.<br><strong>1969:</strong> On Oct. 29, UCLA’s Network Measurement Center, Stanford Research Institute, University of California-Santa Barbara and University of Utah install nodes.<br><strong>1972:</strong> BBN’s Ray Tomlinson introduces network email.<br><strong>1973:</strong> Global networking becomes a reality as the University College of London  and Royal Radar Establishment connect to ARPANET.          <title>Why was the internet created?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first workable prototype of the Internet came in the late 1960s with the creation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Originally funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, ARPANET used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network.<br>&nbsp;At the height of the Cold War, military commanders were seeking a computer communications system without a central core, with no headquarters or base of operations that could be attacked and destroyed by enemies thus blacking out the entire network in one fell swoop. ARPANET’s purpose was always more academic than military, but, as more academic facilities connected to it, the network did take on the branched structure military officials had envisioned. <br><br><strong>Why was the Web Created?</strong><br><br>Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, invented the World Wide Web in 1989. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automatic information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.</div>]]></description>
