Women during World War 2 were the unsung heroins of the war. They left their homes every morning to fill the gaps on the home front that were left by the men at war. They became the mechanics, the desk jockeys, the administrators, radio operators, journalists, mail women, factory jobs, and any other everyday job. Without their commitment and determination to the war effort the nation would not have been able to support its self through the war. These women even served inspirations for the women who formed The Liberation of Women marches showing that women really could do what men can.

At the end of the war, many women were forced out of their jobs even though surveys showed they wanted to keep them. Also, many women who fought in the war encountered problems when they tried to take advantage of the benefit programs for being a veteran. This lead to women marching for equality 30 years later for more opportunities for women. They would constantly remind people of what the women during WW2 were able to do.

Before World War 2, women were considered housewives, which meant they were to stay at home and care for the family. This restricted women from working a paid, full time job. After World War 2, soldiers returned home to their normal lifestyle. While the men were away, women took over their jobs. Because of their return, women were forced to either quit their jobs or get fired. This resulted in 3/4 of the women in the work force not wanting to give up their job, but in the end, 3 million of the women in the work force were laid off.
