Currently one of the most serious issues in Australia is racism. Many Africans who work there are not given access to go to certain places. People in Australia yell the “N” word around Africans. Australians often think about Africans as “dirty black dogs.” In their programs or comments on social network they are mostly stereotypical about how Africans behave. Africans themselves say that it makes them feel second class. This discrimination has led to problems such as health, housing, education and employment. These people miss out on opportunities that Australians take for granted just because they are black. Africans deal with racist documents that have not been changed or improved. It has been that way since 1877.

In the article, "“Taunted and Fetishised: Being an African American Man in Australia.", it stated that the African's wanted to go to the bar but were stop from entering. A white man took a picture of them and posted it on social media calling them "dumbfounded." Some Australians go as far as calling them "Blackie", which get many African Americans mad. This makes them want to leave their own home and go somewhere racism isn't a big problem. Imagine that! It effects them so much that they don't even want to be there anymore. African Americans get abusive mail as well. Furthermore, in another article, “Twitter Users Slam 'Repugnant, Racist' Cartoon of Serena Williams.”, Australians make fun of her by posting a mean cartoon. It shows the tennis star as an overweight big lipped stomping on her racket. She was frustrated because the umpire penalized her a game. She lost the championship. In that same cartoon it shows the umpire asking Williams's opponent to let her win. This is the horrible affect on the community.

C. Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue?

The rest of the world should be concerned because even Australia's outgoing Race Discrimination Commissioner Tim S. is saying that it is slightly increasing. If this can't stop in Australia its going to be hard to do it anywhere else. Sometimes the racism that people face has a negative effect on their mental health leading to depression. Also, since Australia is a culturally diverse country and now racism doesn't effect 2 or 3 people but now it affected everyone in the community. Even people that don't live there. Many Australians admit that there is a racism problem. Moreover, in Italy people accuse African Americans of having no money. That mostly isn't true. They have their own stereotypes and throw food at them. Also, Luca Traini injured 6 African migrants in Italy. The rest of the world should be concerned because racism in spreading instead of decreasing. This is why the rest of the world should be concerned about this issue, racism is going to spread if we don't do something about it

There has been some effort to stop racism in Australia, but not much has been achieved. However, in Australia the government launched a nation-wide public awareness campaign, Racism It Stops With Me. The campaign received 1500 survey responses and 9 out of 10 said that racism was very important. This campaign try to gain the people some self- esteem. They try to make them feel better. It tries to make them fight for themselves. This is what is currently being done to fix the problem.

I wanted to go to a game store so I could get a headset in one of Australia's best game store. So, I got off the bus and started to go to the store when a white man said that he didn't want to see me in "his neighborhood". And I ignored him until he went running to his car. I looked back at him and he had a crowbar in his hand. So I started to run. He then chased me all through the neighborhood. I saw an old lady with her African helper and ran towards them. I told them that the man was chasing me. He then told him to back off or that he would call the police. The white man finally walked away. But then when I finally got to the store the guard told me "Don't come inside if you can't afford anything". I told him I came here to buy a headset. He went into the repair area and got a broken headset and gave it to me. Luckily my dad was in the store at the time and managed to buy an "actual" headset. The guard brought the manager and boy... was he mad. He started to scream why a bunch of "N's" were in his store. And he kicked us out of the store. I hope things change soon. I'm so tired of being treated like an animal.
