The book directly follows the events of the first book "Red Queen". The story is about a fantasy place called Norta, where there are people with silver blood and red blood. People with red blood ( also called Reds ) are normal people. Though people with silver blood ( also called Silvers ) have special powers these include but are not limited to nymphs, who can control water, whispers, who can control other people through their minds and stone skins who have incredibly tough armor coating their body making them resilient to almost anything. Due to this the reds are treated like slaves compared to the silvers who are in turn treated like royalty. The main Character Mare ( a red blood ) joins the Scarlet Guard a secret alliance amongst all red bloods that they will eventually take over the throne but they are in need of new recruits which brings the main plot of this book.
