These days being safe about health information is very important. If you don't do your research it could be potentially dangerous. As stated in the reading, "much of the information on the internet is valuable; however, the internet also allows rapid and widespread distribution of false and misleading information" (Section 8.1). That's why it's important to consult your health care provider about the correct information.

How can we know if our information is reliable?
There are many factors to look at when looking at a health information website. The online textbook says, "owners of reliable websites usually have a policy governing which links to other sites they post" (Section 8.1). Meaning that they have credible sources to what they post on their websites.

Keeping up to date is a way to keep members of that website coming back. If you let your data sit too long and don't update for a while then visitors will start to not trust. The reading states, "even if the information has not changed in a long time, the site owner should indicate that someone has reviewed it recently to ensure that the information is still valid" (Section 8.1). This will give the people a sense of validity that the correct information is up to date.

My grandmother has had many surgeries throughout her life for many different reasons. Usually after most "major" surgeries she would get some form of pain killers. For this one surgery she had on her foot she was prescribed pain killers but she didn't think that they were doing the job right. So she asked her doctor and he gave her a brand that she had never taken before and so she decided to do some research on it. Turns out it was a trusted brand and when she used them she felt much better and safer knowing she did the research.
