Through reading about this musical canon, not only have I learned about what a musical canon and how canon's can be differentiated from one another. To me, a musical canon is simply a style of musical thought or expression that fits a particular mold or model. Western Art music is made distinct by the time period in which it took place(circa 1750-1820), the composers that were prominent throughout this era, and the overall sound of the compositions present in this era. The composers that I consider the "Victors" of this era include Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, and Mozart. Their work more or less set the standard of this canon and what this canon of music represents. To me, what separates classical music from music that we hear today is how engaging the music is of the classical era. The music of today have long introductions before the melodies or as with electronic music, introductions that are mainly filler until the melody. With classical music, the listener is engaged the whole time for the music tells a story that requires the listener to actively listen to what the composer is trying to tell with the music.

Without emphasis on these particular genres, it's important to consider that our idea of Classical music might be much different.
