They occupied Hong Kong to invade China and subjugate opposition to its interference in economic and political matters. Later, they occupied from 1945 to 1997. To overcome China, they invaded Hong Kong during The First Opium War since Hong Kong is a small island close to China. Also, Hong Kong's buildings changed. There were not many restaurants, offices, and other shops nearby. However, during the Colonial, restaurants, and shops from various countries arrived, creating lots of workspaces.

Currently, English is developed in Hong Kong and is widely spoken among many people. Therefore, there are two main languages used in Hong Kong, Cantonese and English. Secondly, Central is the place where lots of business buildings are developed. In the pre-colonial period, there were no business buildings around Hong Kong. Nevertheless, by British influence, Businesses spread, especially in Central.

There are lots of museums that present architecture from the pre-colonial or colonial period of Hong Kong. In this case, a famous museum would be M+. M+ is the museum where there is architecture from Hong Kong or China (or from other countries including the British). You can observe lots of different architecture there. There are more other museums you can try going to. They are very inspirational and fun to watch. Those architectures are delicate since they were made long ago. Even though the museum is placed in Kowloon, according to some architecture there are things found near Central and some paintings show the trading between other countries and Central. (+ I've been there)

Buildings of Colonial

There are various colonial buildings left still in Central. Before Hong Kong became part of or came back to Chinese sovereignty in 1997, the British left some buildings that were related to British or European. The Central District now isn't just an old administrative capital of a former colony and highly developed with business, but also home to historical architectural buildings. In these buildings, I will mainly talk about 2. Before talking about these, what are these types of buildings mean? Well, these colonial (European) styled buildings are an architectural style from a mother country that has been incorporated into the buildings of colonies in far locations. Also, what does these buildings' exterior look like? They are usually made out of bricks and they have an appearance of white or sometimes brown. They also got the appearance from the western part (style).

The first building that I want to talk about is Victoria Prison a famous old prison which is made by the British. This building is the largest and oldest colonial complex in Hong Kong. This was built in 1841 when Hong Kong was just colonized. Victoria Prison is on the aptly named Old Bailey street. This, it's also famous because Ho Chi Minh was once detained here in 1931 and there were some rumors that the conditions of his release included an agreement to spy for the British. Victoria Prison was closed in 2006 which means that people are allowed to walk around the prison for traveling.

The second building that I want to talk about is Rawlinson House. This is the building that is located in Hong Kong Park, and it's surrounded by greenery. This was built in 1910 by the British and used to house the Deputy Commander of the British Forces in Hong Kong. After this was built, it was named after General Sir Henry Rawlinson who served in the British Army during the Great War. This was preserved as a part of Hong Kong Park in the 1980s.

According to the research, there is a gigantic Central Market on Queen's Road which occupies a huge space; 12,000 square meters and includes 3 spacious floors. They are all full of delicious and cultural food. For example, if you want to buy or eat food-related to seafood ones, then you can try and you can also find restaurants like french, Korean, Chinese, and others. There is also Indian food in Central!

Hong Kong is a land where there are lots of people from various countries. Still, there are two main languages that are used right now in post-colonial Hong Kong. They are English and Cantonese.

Cantonese is widely used in Hong Kong since it's the language of its own country. However, do you know why English is used as many people's second language or used often in Hong Kong? It's because of the British influence.

Hong Kong English is a variety of the English language native to Hong Kong. Well, the result of Hong Kong's British overseas territory history and the influence of native Hong Kong Cantonese speakers made people in Hong Kong speak English often. Also, when there was trading going on between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, English developed gradually from Canton English. According to the research, it shows that between 46-53% of people in Hong Kong are able to speak English.

Nowadays, people use English often in many ways. In Central, the travelers would use English to communicate with other people in Hong Kong (traveling) or also use it for or in business (working).
