I love the idea of having an English/social studies INB so students can see how each curricular area informs the other. After discussing the math state test with a colleague I'm beginning to wonder about having a math/English connection with reading as a focus.

The value is one I think needs reinforcement, especially at my middle school grade levels. It is so consistently proven that the kids who have organizational skills and take pride in their work are successful! I don't know which is the cause and which the effect, but the two go hand in hand and the more we support it the better!

I am concerned about the apparent lack of extensive writing pieces when so much time is spent on INBs. Maybe there are ways to incorporate lengthier written work using the notebook material as prewriting.
