I also think of it as how they communicate with them to share information with them. I think that public relations is a really important tool and all companies need to be utilizing it. The function of public relations is to have that communication and build that relationship with consumers.

Public relations to me is the face of an organization. This branch of the company facilitates how the company is perceived, and how successful their brand awareness is. Crisis communication also plays a large function in PR as they are responsible for managing expectations and consumer concerns.

I think about dealing with a company or brand's image and how the public views and feels about them. I think that PR is very necessary because it helps brands to come across as authentic and personable, it helps them better connect with consumers. PR uses mostly earned media, but also paid, shared, and owned media as well to communicate with consumers and stakeholders. PR aids companies in times of crisis and confusion while also preventing brands from future conflict.

The glaring vocabulary that comes to mind for me when it comes to public relations is stakeholders and community. These two words come to mind because I think public relations should genuinely serve the interest of these groups through educational resources and their products. I think a lot of current public relations does the opposite of this and puts the need of the corporation above the need of their stakeholders which is something I hope to help reverse in my future career. I believe the function of public relations is to interact and educate and form relationships between corporations and different public groups.

When thinking about PR, I often think about the term "earned media," but more specifically the word "earned." For me, this word really captures the essence of PR. It's a feeling and idea we all understand yet we know that it is not easy. That's exactly what PR is; working hard to prove something yet having to be calculated about the steps taken. Though tricky, this is what makes PR fun for me. It forces you to be intentional and strategic.

I think "public relations" is a company's way of ushering out news or updates about your company and everything that the public sphere should know. I think it is a good way to get good graces with the public and allow your company to get ahead of news pieces and critical messages you want the world to know, instead of having third-party affiliates trying to get ahead of you. The function is a way to assess and obtain public knowledge through active and strategic communication.

Public relations focuses on perception. The audience's perception is valuable and important to the brand. An audience's view of a brand can be positive and its important to maintain that positive opinion. An audience's view of a brand can turn negative and it's their job to make sure they alter those opinions. They make sure that the brand is trusted. Public relations is important and necessary because of this.

Public relations is how an organization formally communicates with its publics in order to foster a positive relationship/keep up a positive image. In the Bivins reading, what stood out to me most when describing PR was "to promote goodwill". At the end of the day, PR is supposed to benefit the organization first. When I think of PR, I think of crisis communication from large brands or strategic moves from celebrities to gain press.
