He was born to Ida Geneva Eisenhower and David Jacob Eisenhower. He was one of seven siblings in his family. His nickname was Ike which was considered an abbreviation of his last name. He was appointed to go to West Point military academy in New York, after that he was a second lieutenant stationed in San Antonio this is where he met his wife Mamie Geneva Doud and they had two Children John and Doud Eisenhower (Doud died of scarlet fever when he was three). He did not see combat for all 35 years he was in the military. During World War 2 he was the supreme commander of the allied expeditionary force and spearheaded the invasion of Nazi-controlled Europe, at this time he was a five-star general. After World War two he ran for president and won and stayed in office for two terms, during this time he found a passion for painting and golfing. During his presidency he dealt with many civil rights activists and got to witness a famous court case, Brown vs. the board of education.
