In paragraph 2 it mentions how during the 1500's Europeans established slave trading post along Africa's western seacoast, the Caribbean, and the Americas. The trade between Africa and the Americas and the Europe was known as the triangular trade. The African slaves were brought to the americas and were sold all at the same price with no expections. The slaves that were mostly sold were small kids due to the fact that they were small and didn't take up so much space and because they lasted alot longer. The ones that were never sold were taken to the West Indies and The Carribean

Columbus sailed West to East across the Atlantic to carry Carribbean Indian slaves to Spain. After their second voyage, 200 Indians died which caused the Spanish experiment to fail. After the experiment failed they started to introduce African slaves in small numbers. As they saw that they lived longer they continued to use them. King Charles then granted the first licenses to begin slave trade.

In 1787, the United States almost ended the slave trade. Consequently, Georgia and South Carolina did not want to stop the continuous import of slaves, so the Congress came together and made a compromise that the Slave Owners can keep any slaves they already have, but they cannot trade within the Middle Passage.

The “Middle Passage” was apart of the slave trade where overcroweded ships were used to transport slaves overseas. Abroad the ships, men/boys were stripped naked and chained at their wrist and ankles. The women/children were separated into different quarters. However, all slaves slept on the wood of the boat. There were loading philosophies for the boats. The “Tight Packers” believed that more slaves led to more money. The “Loose Packers” believed carrying fewer slaves leave more to be sold. As far as health, they were allowed two meals (boiled rice, yams, beans and water). Hot coals were used to force slaves to eat who refused to. Many died from diseases.
