(pages 1-49) Roland (The Gunslinger) is walking through the desert wen we comes across a small house which belongs to a man. they trade goods and he man provides shelter and Roland tells of his passing though the city of Tull. At this town he talks of his relations with the local bar owner and the strange towns atmosphere.

The City is exactly like a small western town would be nothing fancier then dust and drunk men stumbling about. The Town was surrounded by desert and the direction Roland must go is the place no man has gone and lived to tell about it. because this is where the man in black has ran to.

Jake The Boy- Jake is a young boy 12-15 years of age. he is found by the gunslinger at a way point. he has images of cars and his old family and what seems like New York City. this is odd because in the world he is now there is no such thing as cars and no city's like New York.

The way point seems to just be a house with a barn and a water well. It is very run down and very dusty VERY old.

Roland thins its the work of the man in black. Oh it gets crazy, Roland and the boy make it out of the desert and into a forest. one night while they are sleeping Jake gets possessed and taken to a sacrifice place. Roland and Jake come to a mountain. the cant go around and cant go over so they go through the oddly placed tunnel.
