I'm intrigued but what exactly is meant by diorama. Is it mini-sets, as if when designers first create miniatures, or is it a series of fully staged set design?

Additionally, the locations sited are ornate and highly real life places and events which contributes to my wonder. Is it a reaction of the funeral or christening? From my contemporary positioning the specifics of how his landscape is being staged is unclear.

The scene descriptions of The Aeronautikon sound like a landscape artist's dream. I particularly like the imagery that The Channel and The Rhine conjure. I imagine on a large scale, (described as moving dioramic views) these scenes would be absolutely breathtaking. As described in the reading for this week, Scene painters drew upon descriptions written by travellers, historians and antiquarians, as well as travelling themselves with sketchbooks in hand. The visual experience must have been incredible. It reminds me of another quote from the reading: "views of distant countries will be brought, not like descriptions from the pen of the traveller, geographer, or poet, which, while they inform, leave an anxious wish, a natural desire to behold the scene ungratified".

I like the mention of 'special' scenery and effects and in context of the place/time what the term special may mean to those who would have read it.
also contains brief descriptions of scene and what will be presented- perhaps to entice audiences to see how the theatre company will create it.

I'm curious as to how they would have staged the natural landscapes- I would guess they would use synthetic materials to mimic the natural scenery, such as the salt mine, but how detailed/in depth would they take the design? How they would build the ship and convey the waterfall also intrigues me, and the use of lighting to convey the passage of time through daylight cues- I would like to see the sunset/sunrise in particular and if they were able to mimic the vivid colours of the sky at these times.
