In order to fight against the segregation in their state 187 petitioners decided to have a peaceful protest and march down to the South Carolina State House grounds. As the members of the protest marched through neighborhoods, without causing chaos or blocking traffic, they were met by the police force. The protesters were told to stop the protest but they did not follow the commands as they stood their ground and sang patriotic and religious songs. As a result they were arrested and later convicted on a charge of breach of the peace. Although communist doctrine is against the US government and even advocates for the violent overthrow of leaders, this protest was peaceful.
