Traditionally they are strips of red paper with calligraphy writings of auspicious four-character sayings, e.g. ‘success in all things’, ‘good health’, ‘happy new year’, or a single character of 'good fortune'. People put Fai Chun in the doorways and on walls to create festive atmosphere, and some keep them year round. Some of the modern Fai Chun are mass-printed with cartoons and 3D words.

Steamed cake made of turnip/mooli, Chinese mushrooms, dried shrimps, pickled radish, rice flour and garnished with spring onions and toasted sesame. We also bought some Lunar New Year cakes ("Nian Gao") online as part of our celebration.
My daughter brought in a red snack box as "complete treats box" to take school and give each of her classmates a golden chocolate coin. Would love to give a couple of more coins, but we didn't manage to buy enough coins from the supermarkets. 
She made a lion head with recycles and did some little lion dance at home. We started this "tradition" last year when the schools were closed.
