Thank you for clearing up my question regarding pre-assessments and MTSS. My school has made it really confusing to know when to officially implement MTSS, and they need multiple weeks of data in order to determine if the student needs to be tested for certain academic services. At this moment, I do not have any other questions about assessments. I plan to continue using the think pair-and-share to allow my students an opportunity to effectively communicate with each other and express their ideas to foster new learning.

One observation I have about the lesson on assessment is that there are so many student data sources. Examples include oral responses, problem-solving, journal entries, etc. I also enjoy using small group interactions as a teacher data-gathering mechanism.

In lieu of grading on a curve, at times, I will exclude certain questions that most all students struggled on and focus on those questions when we go over the test and give feedback. As far as the score goes, I exclude those selections from consideration. The other Alg 1 classes may or may not do this, but I feel it is an effective way to address weaknesses with the content.
