Black students and students with disabilities account for a smaller percentage in schools but somehow are suspended, expelled, or referred to local law enforcement at a disproportionate percentage. Black students are often given harsher punishments for lesser offenses than their peers. Although discrimination is deemed illegal by the laws of the United States there are still many examples of discrimination everywhere. Discrimination can be seen in schools, housing, credit, etc. The author believes that government intervention is necessary to level the playing field for those who are discriminated against however, the author also notes that some government intervention like Affirmative Action lessen the value of the actions of those it is meant to benefit. The author asserts that discrimination hurts our society
