The best way I can explain Rigor Samsa is a harden outer shell that is protecting a hollow core. This song by TSTM has the singer begging for the antagonist to "Break him down" because he's "Finished with them". that sense of vulnerability is unmatched when you're asking for it.

This painting of Jesus being mocked by soldiers really resonated with me. Jesus knows he's about to be crucified and maintains composure. The look on his face in this is almost like "do your will" while a crown of thorns is imbedded into his head.

Ataraxia means deep inner peace and untouched by outside distractions that affect your emotional wellbeing. I love how Michael Buble displays this in his (cover) song Feeling Good. His voice and tone in the song interjects this feeling of blissfulness within me, unbothered but others will against me.

When I think of inner peace, I picture calm water. Water lilies, with their delicate root systems, can only thrive in still water. In the right environment, they flourish, undisturbed by external forces—unbothered by frogs leaping onto their leaves or fish weaving through their stems beneath the surface. Claude Monet’s Water Lilies evokes that same serenity, washing over me with a sense of quiet and tranquility.

This poem shows Ataraxia in a different way, the passing of night and the introduction of the dawn. This resonates deeply with me because it shows that you must exit (or pass on) something if you are not at peace. This doesn't explicitly say the night is bad, but it welcomes the new day which is what Ataraxia is all about.

Tenacity is the strong determination to accomplish something despite obstacles. Rise (originally by Katy Perry) is the perfect example of lyrics that display tenacity. That being said, I've always felt that "fire" was missing. I discovered this soft metal remix of the song, and it brings me chills. The emotion this gives off resonates with me deeply.

A tenacious nature is tiring to keep up, and hate is an expensive emotion. There's a time when you look at a situation in your life and have to think, "am I determined to keep fighting?" or "am I determined to find peace?" Let it Be by the Beatles highlights that transition for me. "And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me. Shine until tomorrow. Let it be."

I chose this painting to resemble Tenacity for a couple reasons. First is in the context of the painting itself, the son has left his family to go on his quest of trials and tribulations to return to his father's arms. The son, using tenacity to overcome difficulties in his travels, is embraced by his father. The father, using tenacity to love his son regardless of the trials he has faced, comforts the child in a true form of compassion.

The second reason is a depiction of the artists' life. Rembrandt painted this near the end of his life which was marked by tragedy and grief. This masterpiece was an appropriate capstone to a truly honorable career.

William Ernest Henley’s Invictus captures the essence of struggle and unyielding determination, resonating deeply in moments that demand tenacity. Each stanza concludes with a line as sharp as a blade, cutting through doubt and adversity. The poem’s striking imagery sends chills through me, a powerful reminder to remain the master of my fate, the captain of my soul.

Death is the great equalizer. Though you show your strength in hard times, go against the grain to right your wrongs, and do your best to show the world that you are good person. You won't please everyone, and you shouldn't try to. As one day, the container that holds our thoughts, prayers and ideas will transition to an empty vessel. As I was able to come to terms with this, it opened up the door to inner peace.
