         <title>Practical 4: Acids and alkalis using vinegar and bicarb of soda.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>a) Collect a plastic / foam cup or small bowl or dish. Collect a small spoon.<br><br></div><div>b) Ask for some bicarbonate of soda (might be called baking soda) and some vinegar (white vinegar is better, but any vinegar works).<br><br></div><div>c) Place two spoons of the baking soda (bicarb) into your cup/bowl etc<br><br></div><div>d) Pour onto this powder a small quantity of vinegar – watch what happens.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Challenge 2: Balloon Rockets</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>a) Get yourself some string, a straw and sellotape. <br><br>b) Tie the string to two poles in your garden or on your stairs and sellotape a blown up (untied) balloon onto the straw and thread the string through a straw. <br><br>c) Use different balloon shapes and sizes to see which travels furthest, depending upon air resistance.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Practical 2: Chromatography with skittles</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>a) On a plate, place your different colour skittles and a cover each one in water until all the dye runs out of it. <br><br>b) Dot the dye onto the bottom of some filter paper/tracing paper (about 1cm from the bottom) and place the tip of the paper into a salt solution (dissolve 1g of salt in 1L of water). <br><br>c) The colours should rise as the salt solution travels up the paper. They rise at different speeds because they have different solubilities.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Practical 1: Red cabbage indicator to investigate acids and alkalis in your home.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>a) Ask an adult to boil some red cabbage in a pan. <br><br>b) Remove the red cabbage from the pan (and compost/bin), pour the liquid into a jug. This is your indicator. <br><br>c) Test different liquids in your home by putting a small amount into separate glasses – so some water in one glass, bleach (ask an adult!) in another, washing up liquid, milk, coca-cola/lemonade. Compare to the chart to see whether these household items are acidic, alkaline or neutral.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it has properties of both a solid and liquids. <br><br>a) Get a bowl of water and slowly pour cornstarch into the bowl of water and continue to mix. <br><br>b) It will start to become a gooey consistency. <br><br>c) Roll some oobleck into a ball in your hands.
