This would allow the audience to take part in the creation of the art piece with the guidance of the artist.

Analysis

The white colour formed from the heat would contrast the dark grey ground.

Several different shaped can be formed depending on the formation the people are standing in; circles, rectangles

The outcome of the work (being the imprints) is 2D, however the process of creating it which requires humans would make it a 3D interactive work.

There is some form of movement in the artwork when the people are going from one position to another

The contrasting colours would also bring emphasis to she shape of the bodies in the artwork

These forms made by the heat from the people can also be used to make other shapes like a circle or a square which can also be used to convey a different message

This artwork utilises audience interaction to form the art piece itself which shows that the people viewing the artwork also has a part to play in the creation of the work they are there to see.

Interpret
This artwork focuses on the migration crisis and how the heat of people’s body would represent the ‘invisibility’ of the immigrants.

DESCRIPTION

- what type of artwork is it

Untitled (Free/Still), 1992/1995/2007/2012 is a series of installation artworks by Rikrit Tiravanjia. The artwork(s) are relational artworks, requiring the audience and their relationship to the artwork (and or art objects) in order for the artwork to convey its message successfully and effectively to the audience.

- what is the overall form/subject matter of the work

The artwork consists of a wooden frame of what seems like to be a wooden frame house or a room, with architectural qualities present, making the people feel like they are sitting in an incomplete architectural project. The artwork often takes place in back rooms of art galleries, empty rooms or stages, where bowls of rice and Thai vegetable curry are served to the audience free of charge. Tables and chairs are also present at the venues for the audience to sit down.
- how does the audience experience the work

The artist wanted to use these series of installations to allow people to interact in a sociable manner, while consuming food in a contemporary space. He believes in the idea of partaking in a warm home cooked meal and meaningful interactions between individuals.

ANALYSIS

Form: The artwork and art objects are a 3 dimensional (wooden frames, tables and chairs, food)
Space+ Contrast+Emphasis: The installation(s) usually take place in large empty gallery spaces/backrooms. With the installation being the only artwork in the gallery space, it emphasises the installation in general and prompts the viewers go towards it for it stands out in the room. Within the artwork, there are spaces between the tables and chairs to give each group of people sharing a table some space (maybe privacy?) when consuming food and talking with each other, and not to make the area so cramped and uninviting for other potential viewers.
Unity: The combination of a large room, tables and chairs, warm and delicious food attracts the viewers to go towards the artwork and interact with it.

Description:

Untitled (Free/Still) by Rikrit Tiravanija is relational art, connecting the artist, audience, and the objects within the artwork itself.

It is set within an empty exhibition space in a gallery, transformed into a temporary kitchen. He used wooden crates, boxes, tables and chairs to furnish the space. The artist was present throughout the exhibition period, personally cooking and serving Thai vegetable curry and rice to visitors for free. Visitors could then sit down at the tables and chairs provided within the space to eat and talk to new people. The artwork encourages the audience to interact with him by receiving free food that he personally cooked and with each other through holding conversations while eating.

Analysis:

The exhibition space is furnished with similar wooden furnitures such as chairs, tables, and empty crates, giving the work a monochromatic and minimalistic look. The room is also sufficiently lit, with the wooden furniture being relatively light in colour as well, providing a comfortable and lighthearted atmosphere for the audience. The artwork contains rhythm, being the continuous routine of the artist cooking, then serving the audience, and the audience then going to eat. There is also unity between the artist and audience, in their interactions and actions, in how they all harmoniously eat and talk together.

Interpretation:

This artwork is about the idea of food - both anthropological and archeological. The layers of taste, relationships, and interactions. It involves a lot of experiential relationships - interacting with others and being part of and contributing to the creation of an artwork.

Description:

This artwork falls under the art genre of relational/performance art. It involves the artist and the audience, encouraging them to interact and create the artwork and its meaning with their bodies.

The resultant artwork of the audience’s interaction is shown on a black floor, and has white, ghostly “afterimages” in the shape of human bodies. These “afterimages” are somewhat neatly arranged within a squarish shape. It is created with thermochromic ink which reacts to the body heat - the artist and the audience lie down flat on the ground to create the desired artwork.

Analysis:
The space where the artwork is contained on is wide and open, where many people can freely come to interact with it. Value, when the heat makes the floor turn from black to white.

The stark contrast between the white imprints of the human bodies and the black floor they are imprinted on creates clear images that can be easily seen by other passerbys. Although the shape of each human body imprint varies a little, they are all repeated in neat rows on the floor, creating a squarish block.

Interpretation:
The combined, collective energy of the participants creates the artwork and gives it meaning. The concept of this artwork is to show how people are “clinging on to their nationalism” and is trying to show how people must “work together to solve society’s problems”.

The audience experiences the work by being part of its creation, and viewing the result that they contributed to, and interacting with it, each other, and the artist herself.

This creates an open area where the audience feels more invited. It allows people to feel open to connect with one another.

DESCRIPTION

10,142,926 (Black Floor) is an interactive installation at Tate Modern. The artwork consists of a large empty hall (Turbine Hall) with the floor padded with dark gray thermochromic material. The artwork requires participants to use their body or its respective body parts and when placed on the floor for some time, the heat from the person’s body will activate the floor, leaving a temporary print of their body/body parts on the floor, which is white and somewhat clear (people’s body parts have ridges and furrows in them so it may not be printed perfectly depending on the person’s body and how they placed the body part on the floor). In fact, if there are enough people who participate in the artwork and with much body heat, the floor will eventually reveal a portrait of a young Syrian migrant, Yusef, who fled to the UK and is now studying medicine. This artwork was created as a call to action to the theme of migration and she hopes that people will learn to work together to collectively create something and to know that some things are invisible.

The audience is invited to join together and make contact with the floor to reveal the image underneath.
ANALYSIS:

In this piece, the audience called to action to work together and achieve the goal of revealing the portrait. The portrait under the floor is eventually revealed to be a portrait of a Syrian migrant named Yusef, showing the true theme of migration in the piece. The setup of this installation is designed to make the viewers uncomfortable with its eerie bass soundtrack and the use of black on the floor. The artist also uses the impossibility of revealing the whole piece even if they work together to invoke a helpless feeling in the audience, demonstrating a fraction of the despair migrants feel.

Description-
this is a relational artwork. The overall subject matter of the work is people giving the audience curry. The audience enters the enclosure and experiences the artwork through the relationship between the audience and one another. The curry given to them might be to force the audience to stay within the premises and interact with the other audience members.
(lesson one)
Analysis-
The form of the artwork is in a room that is furnished with various furniture such as refrigerators, tables and chairs, and a drywall all made from repurposed materials. The artwork uses various eoas such as space and form. The form of the artwork is the transformed gallery walls and the various art object such as the curry or the tools to make the curry, Additionally, the use of space in the artwork is found in how the audience is situated. They are concentrated at the collection point in the start, but they soon branch out and dissipate.
Intepretation-
I think that this work is about the fluidity of human relations and the art of learning and enjoying another culture’s food, and also being forced into a social situation, playing at the idea of many levels of ideas, ranging from the making of food, carefully chosen ingredients and curate an ideal environmeny for people to talk to each other

Analysis for black floor. The EOA and POA found in this artwork are, colour space, material alpng with emphasis and repetition. The artwork takes place in the Turbine Hall, hidden by a stark black floor. The artwork spnas across the entire area and there is ample space given for people to place themselves onto the heta sensitive floor. The material of the floor is an integral part of the artwork. It allows the audience to interact with the artwork in a blissfully ignorant way without them having to understand the menainhg. There is repetition of bodies pressed against the floor, evenly space out from each other, until they start to swarm together and reveal the face of Yousef

Interpretation. I think taht this work was a way of expressing the gruesome reality of immigratilon, immigration laws and their effect of innocent people. Moreover, I feel that Tania chose to introduce this work as nothing but a mere fun experiment with materials, to really play on the ignorance of first world people, unbeknownst to the grim terror of the migration crisis. She uses this artwork to shed ight on this politicaal issue as a way of protesting against the harrowing truth. Additionally, the ever-chnaging tite brings a larger emphasis onto her message

DESC:
- a large scale interactive piece involving the audience and the “space”.

- The setting, 303 Gallery, has a warm tone to it.
- multiple tables and stools that populated the empty spaces.
- a long table in the front, which had pressure cookers filled with rice and curry separately.
- stacks of disposable utensils and bowls

- The audience is invited to dine within the space and socialise with other audience members over food, they would receive a bowl of rice and curry from the servers stationed at the long table
- audience would sit down with people who might be strangers and interact with each other.
- This interaction would ultimately form the artwork that the artist has created by providing that space and resource.

ANALYSIS:
- EOA :

The artwork is conducted in a large room with and open space concept. There are a minimal number of furnitures/furnishes - the most significant of which are the large structures forming the walkways of the installation. The structures are tall, but they are simply rectangular frames. As such, whilst they shape the room, they also provide an open space.

The hues of the room are mostly yellow and have a warm atmosphere due to the lighting.

POA :

Movement: the audience is allowed to move around the gallery E.g. to the food station, to the tables, talking to people etc.

Unity: of the audience getting together and connecting at a table. They also form clusters in the gallery physically, showing unity at the areas with the tables and chairs places.

Repetition of the audience getting food and finding a seat, interacting with others. New sets of people enter while old sets leave after eating and the process is repeated

INTERPRET:
- He was interested in exploring the possibility of creating like-minded social spaces in places usually reserved for the quiet contemplation of art, concepts of which could contrast each other in their essence.

- He worked on the idea of food, but in a kind of anthropological and archeological way. It was a lot about, the layers of, taste and, otherness.

- The work is mainly a platform for, people to connect with the work itself, but also with one another. It also about a kind of experiential relationship, so you actually are not really looking at something, but you are within it, you are part of it. The distance between the artist and the art and the audience gets a bit blurred.

Was it fulfilled?
- The intention of bring people together was conveyed through unity, where the objective of connecting people through sitting together and having conversations.

- The hues in the room also formed a nice atmosphere to bring people together, encouraging more audience members to interact more due to the cozy atmosphere.

Describe
The artist converted a gallery exhibition space into a lounge area, where he cooked and served rice and Thai vegetable curry to visitors for free. It is an interactive, large-scale artwork. The artist converted his gallery into a private lounge area. He used this area to host an interactive artwork where the viewers get free Thai Vegetable Curry that was served by the artist. The audience could interpret and interact with the contemporary artwork, especially since the space in which the artwork is in an the artist own gallery. This creates a unique space for the audience and artist.

Analysis
Space and Form - The space used for this artwork is decorated by wooden poles.

Description:

The artwork is made out of the people who join and interact with the artwork. The title of the artwork is the number of people who migrated from one country to another last year added to the number of migrant deaths recorded so far. When people lie on the floor, thermochromic ink would allow them to leave a white print due to their body heat. There is a portrait under the thermochromic flooring and thus it requires a large amount of people to lie on it at the same time in order to reveal the portrait.

Analysis:

Space and Emphasis - The artwork is an installation in a large space/room. The simplicity and emptiness of that space causes the viewer to focus on the artwork. The white imprint contrasts against the plain black flooring, further highlighting it.

Colour - The overall colour of the artworks is darker in colour (black) as black is a better conductor of heat and this would enhance the speed of the artwork.

Interpretation:

The artwork is a response to a migration crisis. The culmination of people in the artwork show the mass amount of people who migrated last year. The collaborated effort of the people would reveal a giant portrait under the black thermal paint commending the audience’s performance and effort.

In my opinion I feel that the work demonstrates a great amount of contrast. The concept behind the work if very superficial and to me that's quite unappealing. However, the contrast was what really caught my eye. This is because the juxtaposition between the white and black is a clear cut rendition of the audience’s effort and the fruits of their labor.

DESC:
- This is a large scale interactive work where the audience members as well as the artist interact with the art object, which has the thermochromic ink that reacts to the body heat of the people.

- The setting is an empty and spacious room with a charcoal grey flooring. The audience members would have to come into contact with the floor, where the heat is used to create the work. With each different position or action that the audience makes, it changes the artwork entirely.

- As a result, the audience members and the artist herself interacting with the floor (the art object) is the artwork.

ANALYSIS:
EOA : Colour, Space

The artwork contains an empty room with only people. This artwork has a monochromatic colour scheme. The ink used on the designated space looks white against the black floor.

The imprints left by the audience has an irregular and organic shape. The lines are curved with little to no straight lines.

POA : Contrast, Emphasis, Repetition, Movement

The light coloured ink against the black floor creates a contrast and emphasises the organic shapes formed.

The shapes created are relatively similar to each other are and are repeated throughout the space on the floor.

The shapes imprinted onto the floor shows the movement of the people who came into contact with the floor.

INTERPRETATION:
- In response to the crisis in migration, Bruguera has focused on the status of the neighbour and what it means to act and interact locally.

- She invites audience members to take part in symbolic actions in the Turbine Hall, from revealing a portrait of a person’s face hidden beneath a heat-sensitive floor, to crying under the influence of an organic compound.

- The artists intentions behind installing such an artwork was to bring to light the devastating reality of migrants’ lives.

- Since 2014, the Missing Migrants Project has kept track of the number of people who die while attempting to migrate to a foreign country, without regards to their legal status’. It is from the data provided by this project that this artwork gets its name - the ever increasing number of people affected translate into an ever increasing numbered title.

- The audience can explore how the museum can learn from and adapt to its local community beyond the duration of the commission

- The image hidden beneath the floor is of Yousef, a young man who fled Syria in 2011 and received emotional and practical support from SE1 United.

Was this fulfilled?
- The monochromatic colour scheme gives the work more solemn atmosphere and look.

- As it is a interactive work, The audience members can work together with their immediate neighbors in the hall to touch the heat-sensitive material on the floor, which will reveal the image beneath by themselves.
