First, fossil fuels are the biggest cause of air pollution today, as oil-powered transportation vehicles and factories release large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere every day. Therefore, replacing coal and oil with wind or solar power will help reduce emissions to  the atmosphere and improve air quality. Second, fossil fuels, such as natural gas or oil, are finite  and  soon to be exhausted resources, potentially threatening the economy without alternative sources.
