My grandparents (on my dad's side) came over from Italy in the early 1900's. They brought with them our tradition of eating some very unique seafood on Christmas Eve. That meal every year was one of my favorite growing up and my family still prepares the same foods each year. We had squid soup, fried smelts, fried whiting (fish) and spaghetti with a tuna fish based tomato sauce. This tradition has been passed down through the years and I hope one day that my own children will someday keep the tradition going.
-Mr. Shannon

This pastry has been passed down from one generation to the next in my family. We typically make it around the Holidays and look forward to it every year. It is quite a process to make, but enjoyed by my family. When I was younger, I helped my grandma and mom make it. Now, my mom and I make it together. It just isn't the Holidays until we enjoy a piece of nut roll and poppy seed roll.
~ Mrs. Neff

Filipino Food

My great grandmother(My mom's side) was born in the Philipines and we eat a lot of Filipino cuisine. The funny thing is my grandma is the only one who cooks the food. When she cooks dinner she makes something called "Pancit," it's kind of like Lo mein but the Filipino version. Another thing she cooks is something called "Lumpia," that is kind of like the Filipino version of an egg roll. My personal favorite food mt great grandma makes is "Bistek," or "beef steak." If you never had it before you'd probably think it's gross and super salty but once you get used to it and eat it over some rice it's delicious. There is one more thing we eat and that is "Longganisa," to be honest I think this is one people who never tried Filipino food would like the most because it's kind of sweat. "Salamat sa iyong oras" or in English Thank you for your time.
From: Isaiah Baker

Eastern Orthodox follow the Gregorian Calander, which is two weeks different than our traditional Julian Calander, so we celabrated both!!!! Breakfast was a pan of Palachinkas, which are just like crepes. Then for dinner was lamb on the spit.
Mr. Jarvis

My mom came to the U.S two decades ago and my dad came here fourteen years ago from Africa(specifically Nigeria). But sometimes they act like they came to the U.S a few days ago. Anyways, when they came, they "brought" food and so many other cultural things with them. One of the most iconic thing they "brought" was the food. The picture that I have here his a widely known dish to (some) african's. In Nigeria we call this Jollof Rice. It's White, Parboiled rice that is simmered in tomato's. The tomato's gives the rice the red-orange color. Then sometimes you add vegetables, meat, and spices to it. It tastes really good!
-Ife Okoh

I didn't grow up with many traditional German recipes, as I'm a 5th generation American, but I've recently been searching for more. The one I do remember was one I actually avoided because of the black licorice flavoring (anise). My great aunt always picked them up from a bakery in Barberton that some of my extended family still runs. I remember learning very early what the Springerle cookies looked like at Christmas and eating all around them, leaving them for someone else.

Mr. Eckart
