In the book Private Peaceful, the Author Morpurgo shows the readers that it is good to stand up for someone, although in some cases it can be difficult. This is shown because the two brothers Tommo and Charlie are going to war to fight for their freedom and justice. Since it was unfair, and taken over by others, like the Colonel. The Peaceful brothers are always acknowledged throughout the whole story, not only for standing up for themselves and each other, but also for standing up for their troops. In the story of Private Peaceful the brothers Charlie and Tommo always stand for each other, even when it is tough. Throughout the story Charlie takes on the role of his dad and helps the family. Tommo stood up for his brother Big Joe, when he was being called names. This novel gives the reader an idea that mostly it is important to stand up for what you believe is right, despite the fact it may be precarious.

The quote "One day discovered that sometimes you've got to stand up for yourself and fight for what's right, even when you don't want to". Is found in the second chapter of the book, 'Twenty to Eleven'. It was said when, "there was a lot of fighting at school". Tommo is seeing this and realises that he "was never much good at it". He learned that one day he's going to have to stand up for what he believes in. Instead of being scared and backing away from the situation. This helps the readers understand the quote, and makes us all realise that this is not only applicable in the book, but also in reality.

Mopurgo shows that you should stand up for what you believe is right, no matter how difficult it may be. This statement refers to the book how "Charlie could have left me (Tommo) there". After all he didn't because "Charlie's not like that. He never has been". Their strong bond as brothers always encourages Charlie to stand up for his younger brother, no matter the consequence. Charlie as an older brother fulfils the role of their father, who has passed away. Charlie portrays his father's role by standing up for his family. Like in the book when Charlie was threatened to join the war, "or else he (Colonel) won't let us (his family) stay in the cottage". He became a young man in the role of this father, when he stood up for his family and protected them. This is an example showed showed for standing up for others, no matter what risk you may be faced, throughout the whole book of 'Private Peaceful',

Some other ways the book proves this statement is through other characters like Tommo. An example is when Jimmy Parson the school bully calls Big Joe a loony, and Tommo "then fists flailing, screaming at him" rages at Jimmy Parson. Big Joe was Tommo's older brother and there was no way he would "let go" what some kid had said about his brother. Another example is Charlie when he stands pretty much throughout the whole book. Especially when "he (Jimmy Parson) puts the boot in, hard. I (Tommo) curl up in a ball". Then he sees "Charlie grabbing him round the neck and pulling him to the ground". Charlie did this to stand for his brother who, he knew was innocent. Although he faced the consequence of getting beat, he still stood up for his little brother. This is also how Charlie was taking action in the role of his father. The examples in the book helps understand that standing up for what you believe in, does not always have a good outcome, but it's better to still do it.

Mopurgo shares this idea of standing for others in the book, to show what happens in the reality. It's not always fantasies and fairytales stories. He may have wrote this book to courage those , who may be scared to stand up for what they believe in. I believe Mopurgo is trying to portray this message throughout the whole book to show how, in reality things may be hard, but by fighting for it and getting it through it life will feel so much better. Charlie is one of the main examples of standing for others in the book. Mopurgo refers to the quote of standing up when Tommo sees a fight at school and thinks to him. he's going to have to stand one day even if he's scared. This great book shows all the ups and downs for standing up for what you believe, but it still encourages the reader to stand up for others. Since one day it maybe us that are going to be in their situation and no one is going to stand up for us. By then it will be too late, so do what you can, when you can, because in the end it may help you back.

But always fighting for your rights and standing up for your belief doesn’t always give you justice. The peaceful family always stood up for each other, towards people with more powerful than them. Because they were so under classed they have to stand up for themselves. Tommo stood up for Big joe when Jimmy called him ‘looney’, Charlie stood up for Bertha from the colonel, Charlie stood up for Tommo during army training when Sergeant Hanley picks on Tommo.

“Private Peaceful” is a novel written by Michael Morpurgo, that shows the actions of different characters, who stand up for what they believe in, even when it’s not the best decision to make. The Peaceful family continuously show many courageous acts while still being looked down from people with more control. Tommo Peaceful isn’t the type of hero you’d imagined but he still stands up for his beliefs with a little lack of self assurance. Charlie Peaceful gains respect from his peers and family due to the amount of times he has stood up to people higher than him. Mrs Peaceful also stands up to those in power when they comment harshly on her and her family’s decisions. Morpurgo writes that sometimes it can be worth standing up for what your beliefs. It also shows that at other times, it may not be the best choice.

Michael Morpurgo “Private Peaceful” novel shows different hardships and difficult times each characters goes through in the novel. Each character is challenged with different difficulties that forces them to stand up for themselves even if it is not always the best and right thing to do. They are all challenged to stand up for themselves when something is unfair and when it has to do with a family member. In the novel “Private Peaceful” the Peaceful family is at the bottom of the social ladder so they are forced to stand up for themselves otherwise they will constantly be looked down, but the world is just simply unfair. Tommo Peaceful stands up for his beliefs several times in the novel but still lacks confidence in himself. Charlie Peaceful stood up many times and questioned authority when he believed something wasn't right. He also earned respect many times in the novel. Mrs Peaceful also spoke up many times in the novel during times where her family was being look down and her family rights were taken away. In the novel it shows time where you should stand up for yourself but it also shows why you shouldn't stand up for what you believe in all the time.

Michael Morpurgo’s book Private peaceful express’ Tommo, Charlie and Mrs peaceful should always fight for what they stand for, whether standing up ends in tragedy and honour, punishment or in benefits. They very much do fight for their beliefs. Tommo fought for their brother big Joe when Parsons call him “a looney”, and Charlie fights for Tommo when Tommo gets hit by Parsons. Through-out the book, Charlie stands up for Tommo, at school from Jimmy Parsons and at army training when Sergeant Hanley picks on Tommo. Then at the end of the book Charlie makes the absolute sacrifice standing up form himself and Tommo. Either way, standing up for beliefs and what is right, is the both a good and bad way to go, but it is right because nobody would their beliefs being disrespected.

Michael Morpurgo's "Private Peaceful" displays the understanding and importance of standing up for one's beliefs, despite the consequences and judgments of others, constantly demonstrated by numerous characters throughout the novel. It is evident that the actions taken by few of the characters are made for beneficial reasons, in which I agree are necessary, whether it be Tommo and Charlie working in order to earn pay for example. Although many of the decisions that create the story's progression are by the interpretation of what "seems right" to do, often influenced by various objects. In this case, I do not think that individuals should "always" stand up for what they believe in, but rather to defend and consider the wellbeing and satisfaction of those around them. Being courageous and heroic will only go so far when people besides yourself suffer from the outcome. The decisions of each character may differ depending on the situation, age, personality and social standing, and the opinions of others will vary. Every group or individual in the novel handles situations in their own way, reasonable or not, and confrontation becomes that of importance to implement these notions. Methods of “fighting” can be interpreted in numerous ways by the characters, physical or verbal. I do agree that those who believe strongly of their beliefs should act accordingly, but they should do so in a manner that won’t backfire. Reasons behind confrontation are just as important as the success itself, as it corresponds with the storyline and effect it has on others. The reasoning however may not be completely logical if relying on beliefs, no matter how strong.

In Michael Morpurgo’s novel ’Private Peaceful’ it demonstrates tot the readers that it is very courageous to stand up for yourself and your beliefs but not at all occasions. In the novel there are several characters who stood up for what they believe in, even if there were consequences, just like Charlie did when Tommo got in a fight with Jimmy Parsons he got hit by Mr Munning. IN the peaceful family there are many characters that fought for “what’s right” or what they “believe in”. Charlie stood up for Tommo multiple times and also he made decisions like going to war for his brother and take care of his bother which lead to his death. Tommo stood up for Big Joe with Jimmy Parsons called him a ‘loony’ which wasn’t the best decision because he went through a lot of pain. Also Mrs Peaceful stood up for her family rights against the colonel.. In the novel it shows that is it very brave to stand up for “what’s rights” but at times it may not be the best decisions to make.

"Private Peaceful" by Michael Morpurgo, is a story of two brothers who always look out for each other. This book does show that sometimes you've got to stand up for yourself and fight for what's right through several actions of the characters. The main story is set in the war but some of it is set in their home town. Charlie stands up for Big Joe/mates/family as well as the authority and so as the unfairness of those who have misuse their overwhelming power. Ms. Peaceful stands up for her family and Tommo and encounter the authority when they offend on her family’s fundamental rights. Tommo stands for his own beliefs by developing confidence and faith in himself and gaining heroic. Each chapter begins with the main character (Tommo) reading out the time. The start of the chapter is in the present for Tommo but he always sees something that makes him think about the past. As the story goes forward the past and the present join up at the end of the big (exciting part of something). The Peaceful family consistently sometimes stand up to their beliefs.
