• Cavite Mutiny is known to be the uprising and revolution of troops and workers at Cavite where Filipino workers fought against Spanish troops due to Spanish repression. As a current Filipino citizen, I do believe that the significance of the Cavite in modern times lies in our own sense of Nationalism.  

3. Did Rizal retract ?
• He already said that he was really innocent, so there is no more point in retracting, and he knows that even if he retracts, it will never change the verdict. Also, Rizal will always remain a Christian, even if he did not retract his works. He might be a Christian but a Christian is not necessarily Roman Catholic, possibly a reformed Christian or a Christian rationalist. He believed in heaven, and he expressed all his trust to the Lord, even at the point of his death.

    • Answer: From my perspective, I believe that the First Filipino Mass takes place in Limasawa, not in Butuan. It is because of the inconsistency of the facts with regard to Magellan’s route, the date, and also the spellings of places and persons involved as presented by various historians supporting the Butuan version.

    2. What happened in the Cavite mutiny?
    Answer: In Cavite Mutiny, the execution of GomBurZa happened. These three priests were accused and sentenced to death by the garotte for the Cavite arsenal revolt of January 20, 1872.

    Answer: I believe that Rizal did not retract and it proves his stance that he died loving his country by continuing to stand up against the injustice that ruined the lives of Filipinos.

I also thought that the cry of rebellion emerged in Balintawak since the Balintawak people were the ones who started the revolution. Because Guillermo Masangkay was Andres Bonifacio's personal advisor and the General of the Katipunan, I believed his narrative.

  • In 1872, 200 troops and workers rebelled against Spanish authorities due to salary reduction, aka the Cavite Mutiny. GomBurZa was linked to the failed mutiny leading to their execution by guillotine.
  • Rizal did not retract. That’s why he was killed by a firing squad. Rizal wrote powerful novels that were both critical of the church and government that time. If Rizal really did it for love why didn’t the church release it through local and foreign newspapers? If could’ve be used to shake people’s faith in the revolution. While, Plauchut's account, he highlighted that the arrival of Governor Izquierdo, abruptly put an end to all reformation aspirations. He also focused to the martyrdom of GOMBURZA and emphasized that they paved way to the revolution culminating in 1898.

    3. Due to a lack of evidence, many people didn't believe that he retract, on the other hand, a lot of people convinced that he signed the retraction. Evidently, there is no strong evidence regarding with this matter because there is no document that can prove that Rizal signed the letter of retraction. No matter if he signed it or not, the significance of this event is his writings sparked a movement for justice among Filipinos and inspired us to fight for our rights.

A number of Filipino intellectuals were imprisoned and accused of cooperating with the mutineers. After a brief trial, three priests—José Burgos, Jacinto Zamora, and Mariano Gómez—were publicly executed.. The three were later assassinated in an effort to advance Philippine independence.

Because of this draconian policy, it compromise the will of the Filipino that totally led to mutiny where 200 Filipinos gathered at Fort San Felipe on January 20, 1972 and it was a futile revolt. After the mutiny, the three friar: Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora was accused of being the mastermand of the revolution and sentenced to death because the spaniard thought that their proposal of so-called secularization - (all priest must have their own position and church) was related to the revolution.

The First documented Christian Mass in the Philippines was held at Easter Sunday, the 31st of March 1521, on an island called "Limasawa". It was officiated by Father Pedro de Valderrama of Magellan expedition 

    2.) Based on my observations, Rizal may not have actually retracted. The records that arose may have simply been produced and twisted in order to invalidate parts of Rizal's works, which have had a significant impact on the locals' perception of the Spanish people. Furthermore, there are no genuine proofs that the statements mentioned in the records originated from Jose Rizal. In another light, we can speculate that Rizal was threatened or coerced by the friars to write the aforementioned letter of retraction before his assassination in order to clear and withdraw the stories of Spanish injustice that the people have ingested.

The execution of GOMBURZA was a miscalculation on the side of the Spanish government since it ended Filipino resentment and spurred Filipino patriots to demand for reforms and, eventually, independence. There are various stories of the event, but one thing is certain: the 1872 Cavite Mutiny laid the stage for a historic 1898.


    4.) The prior to World War II, "Pugad Lawin" was never officially recognized as a place name on any Philippine map. "Pugad Lawin" first appeared in historiography in 1928, or 32 years after the events. The revolution was always thought to have taken place in the region of Balintawak, which was distinct from Kalookan and Diliman. I read that the centennial of the Balintawak Cry would be celebrated at the site of in Gulod, barangay Banlat in Quezon City.
