On The Waves Linking (Chapter 18)

In Chapter 18 of Every Song Ever by Ben Ratliff, Ben talks about songs go outside of their structure to create new outcomes. After reading the chapter, I do agree with Ben because I think it is important that people do not keep doing the same thing just because they already know the outcome is going to be. Artist just like people need to go out of their comfort zone to create new greater outcomes. The reason behind why people try to stay on a comfortable path is because they do not want to take risk, and do not want the outcome to be negative. Artist take risk, because if they do not then people will stop listening to them because they would be creating the same music which would get boring. In the chapter Ben uses a piano piece by Gabriel Faure, but the version performed by Quatuor Ysaye with Pascal Roge as the pianist. An in his example he talks about how the piece starts out how any other piece of music would by changing volume and pitches, and then all the sudden about 6 minutes and 45 seconds in there a curious change happens in the music. During the music, the music changes into a three-note descending motif, and the pianist changes the keys adding to the new background of the music. After listening to this song, I could heard the change in music and it definitely could hear the change during the time of change. Its important not only for people, but for musical talents to take risk to grab more peoples attention. When thinking and trying to figure out a sing which I believe took risk would be "Look What You Made Me Do" by Taylor Swift, the reason behind why I believe Taylor Swift took a risk by this song is because she used more bass, different style of music from her regular pop music (I feel like there is some techno music, and her music video is kind of out there by using her old image as being dead. The outcome may not always be what you expected, you never know what the impact may be on the risk you take, taking risk is not always a bad thing.
