Before reading the book the way I would analyze music was very surface level, I never thought to dig deeper in what I was actually listening to. Ratliff has given me the tools to be able to listen to all genres of music outside of my own personal taste and still be able to give full concrete opinions. I agree with Ratliff when he says this because closeness is something that can be developed over time in a piece of music. I think that this element of music has a lot to do with maturity within a piece and the performers. It takes a lot for others work to achieve such perfect harmony. When thinking of how I could interrupt this idea, I though of how awkward it would be to have a piece of music that played the same note over and over again. I came to the conclusion that the idea of a single note can be used to send across a powerful message. The repetitive power would show the importance of that specific note in the piece of music. 
To me this element was kind of the black sheep of the book.
