The most advantages of these types of case studies efficient for finding rare or mostly unknown diseases or genetic disorders such as schizophrenia which was unknown till a case study was carried out by Seymour Kety physicist. The key idea was to find out if schizophrenia was a genetic based by comparing how common diagnosis between biological and adoptive family. The controlled variable in this experiment was that none of the families have a history of mental illness; this was to stop any possible anomalies to make it more accurate. Because the adoption and schizophrenia are a natural variable means the experiment is natural meaning they wouldn’t have to change many variables which helps it be more accurate study.

this is a important application for families who have a history of schizophrenia and people who are looking to adopt a child. If schizophrenia has a genetic component that even bringing up a child into a adoptive family might not prevent a child with a genetic predisposition for schizophrenia becoming ill in later life. However the diathesis- stress made suggests it requires a trigger. If families are aware that the child has a genetic link to schizophrenia they can make sure that the child keeps away from and stressful events and watch out for symptoms. As with most mental illnesses schizophrenia is less destructive if diagnosed early on.
