luke

(Economy) one of the drawbacks of being a street performer is that if a country wide pandemic were to come again example like covid, street performers wont have a passive source of income. Therefore, they wont be able to put food on their table and if they were doing busking as a main job to support their family, it will be hard for them to find a new source of income as they might not have experience in working in other job scopes.

(Health) Another drawback is that your physical and mental health will be affected. This means that, if you had a huge audience watching you perform and once your done with your performance no one donated to you any money, this could bring your confidence down. Also your physical health is affected as your under the sun most of the day and you will be doing performances which will tire you out. Therefore, you wont be able to continuously perform which will affect thee amount of money you earn.

Personally, i try to help buskers wherever i can but i remember watching a video of a busker with a huge audience. And the busker performed some amazing stunts, but once the performance stopped everyone left without donating or saying thank you. Which from what i see the busker was disappointed, but that didn't stop him from performing. Therefore he continued performing. This shows that there are disadvantages to busking.

Joysen

One of the drawbacks of being a street performer is that it would be embarrassing if you fail or u might get criticized as there would be lots of attention which would result in lots of pressure. Passersby might make negative remarks for example being called a show off or being known as Beggers.

Another drawback is their physical health. This is because in order to start street performing countless of hours are invested in their practise to master their talent. I feel pitiful for them as they are having an unstable income and yet still keeping a positive vibe.

Olivia

One of the drawbacks is that the buskers are not able to work when it was around the year of 2020 to 2021 as there was the lockdown and pandemic . when there's the lockdown buskers were not allowed to work their normal way and after the lockdown the measures for covid 19 was still very strict as it was not allowed to have any crowd or gathering so when they busk they might create a crowd .

I have seen how buskers were not able to perform due to the pandemic but when they started to lift the rules , buskers were allowed to perform again but then safe distancing people were still walking around checking for safe distancing which disturbs the fun and all as this safe distancing people tell us to move i see people leaving the place so that they dont need to hear the nagging of the safe distancing which made the audience smaller and smaller , i could see the busker was feeling quite sad and annoyed as he couldn't perform in peace but rather to face the safe distancing rules for the audience .

Another drawback is that being a busker , they may get criticize at one point of time as some young people will think that they are homeless and just performing for the sake of money. This may lead to low self esteem and even losing confidence of one self . I have seen how young people ask their friends if they should give the "homeless performer " money and they just giggled away while they walked away mocking the busker as they sang a very relaxing song for the audience at bugis+ , i was 11 years old at that time so i did not know what was right or wrong but my sister wasnt very happy about it as the busker was actually seeing her favourite song i could see the busker feeling a little sad due to the mocking from the young people as after he sang his second last song he just said bye and left . i could tell he felt disappointed due to the remarks .

personally i think buskers are a nice job as they show their talent off without being a singer nor anything so i think they are pretty nice people with nice jobs.

one of the drawback of being a street performer is that it may take a toll on your mental health. Being on the streets and allowing strangers to see you and watch you play is a bold thing to do because not everyone might like the way you sing or act. when people dont like what you are doing they might start to give hate comments and might give disgusted look. this things may lead to cause street performers having mental issues and social anxiety because they dont feel good about themselves compared to the people around them.

another drawback is the amount of money you can earn from street performing. yes if you are a popular performer you can earn enough money to sustain this lifestyle. but everyone starts from the very bottom. when you start from the bottom its all based on ur luck and if people feel like u should deserves their money or not. so if you are a new street performer and this is your only job it might not be a sustainable job to have, you might need a few more jobs to sustain this hobby/ job of being a street performer. street preforming is not ideal for money earning because it is fully based on whether the streets are open for people to come.durong covid many buskers lost a lot of money due to covid not allowing then to go on the streest and perform.

personally when i watch street performers i find it quite amazing, watching other people show of their talent whether it is singing or trick shots. it is fascinating to watch them because they are doing something that i definitely cannot do.

jonella

One of the drawbacks of being a street performer is that people have a common misconception that street performers are broke. This is because they cant get a job and the only job they could get is busking and people feel that busking isn't a job its more of a hobby. This is because people now thinks that jobs are in office and dont really think that music is a job more of a hobby that you are obsessed with i feel that people look down on buskers as they feel that they probably never study or anything spend their whole life playing music.

Another drawback is that it is not very good for your health as they have to perform many hours sometimes in the sun. They would also have to practice many songs and might get tired as practicing new songs can be tiring and might be hard to perform when people dont clap for you or dont give you money they might think your performance is not nice. The income from busking changes a lot as it depends on the people who are willing to give them money for their performances

Personally when i see buskers i would normally donate as i feel that they work hard learning songs and we should give them something so they dont think they are performing badly. I would donate to the buskers near Hougang mall when i feel generous. They would always say thank you and smile after i donate so its really nice i guess to see them smile

Carissa Goh.

(social)One of the drawbacks of being a street performers is people might think that you are poor, thinking that you are a beggar, begging on the streets. This is because people have a mindsets thinking only beggar does that on the streets. This is also because people think that the buskers are very poor as they are trying to get money from people to buy their daily necessities.

Another drawback is people might look down on you, and some parents might even ask their children to do be like them or go near to them. This is because parents might think that they are poor because they did not study hard, thus affecting their futures. Thinking that not studying hard makes them hard to find jobs, thinking that busking is the only way to earn money. Thus parents do not want their children to be like them.

The last drawback is your friends might tease you, saying that your performance is bad causing you confidence level to drop.

In my own personal experience, I did not busk in public before, but I have seen people busk before. As they were busking in public some people did gives them money, but some parents will pull their children away from the busker. Saying that they were beggars, and poor.

( health)Being a busker can also hurt your physical health, they can also feel sick easily as they need to perform and practice under the hot sun. They might even injured themselves as they were performing some tricks with heavy equipment. In my own personal experience, I have seen some busker being very weak and breathless after performing. They also seems to be very tired after the whole day of performing.

(Economy) When pandemic occurs, the buskers are not allowed to perform on the streets due to lock down. Lesser people might even come to see the performance eventhough the lockdown is over. In my own personal experience, people who busk said that their confidence drop due to long term not performing and the number people is getting lesser.

Celestine Goh.

One of the drawback of being a street perform is people giving the hates and negative remarks. This is because people might think that they are beggars that are in need of money and only want to earn easy money from the crowd by doing street performance. The society might view them as poor people because they never study hard back them resulting them not to get a good and decent job like an office job. The buskers that receive this comments might feel depressed and thinking about their jobs as a busker. They probably wanted to do this job as part time. to earn extra money and not what the society think of them. They don't benefits for this as this can affect their confidence and even self-esteem. This can be educational as some people might be curious about them and wanting to gain knowledge but some people might not as they just think that they do this job is because they never study hard when they were studying in school when they are young. They environment does play an important role towards the busker. If the environment is quite the buskers might feeling they are playing to the air and empty spaces but if the environment is loud and in joyous mood, they busker might have a chance to create a crowd and earn money my making the street more lively. In terms of economics some busker might earn more money depend of their skills but some might earn much lesser as they might lack of skills or chose the wrong space and times to perfom, for example if a busker perfom in a place with less people, no one will even watch or donate money and the mood is not exactly great that why normally buskers normally choose tourist attraction and even on the weekend when is crowded. Another drawback is people ignoring the busker, no matter how crowded is the place or the mood whether is good or not, people still ignore them and dont even glace at them at all. They might make them earn very less and make them overthink whether they can make a living like them causing them to have stress and effecting a mental health, the environment sometime do matter but there can be times where no one really actually pay attention to them or donate money to them, they just thinking that they are non existence. This make them struggle economically and financially as they couldn't make many money. Personally, i try to donate money to busker whenever i saw any busker, wishing that this can help to motivate them and gain their confidence, i would also watch their performance and applause of them.

nur syalynn 3-7

One of the drawbacks of being a street performer is, not having sufficient funds. This is because, on some days, when busking, some people will not enjoy much of the performance or there will not be as much as people on the streets. This will lead to less income for the performers. It'll be tough for buskers to perform and will bring not enough income back home. Moreover, its worse if its a full time job.

Hence, this will make street performing difficult for some buskers.

Another drawback is, back in 2020, pandemic hit. It will lead to less funds. I feel so as, buskers are not allowed to busk due to Covid19. If performing, there will be a large group of crowd, that will lead to increase of Covid19 cases. Although Covid19 is not as serious as it was before, sickness of others can also be spread easily due to large cluster. Hence, this will lead to buskers not being able to have sufficient funds due to health reasons.

Personally, I've seen buskers all over Singapore. In and outside of MRT stations. Streets of Orchard Road and many other places. I feel like to me, people performing on the streets can be entertaining and soothing at times. I'd enjoy to listen to some music when going to one place and another or even watch some entertainment. At times, I would also give some money to them as it would make my day complete to give some funds to people that deserves it more than me.

As a result, I feel like busking has their own benefits for other people and themselves.

Buskers want the street to come to life.

Another drawback is being a street performer is the pandemic times. the social was effected so much as the new rules came.

angelyn

one of the drawback of being a of being a street performer is that it is very difficult job to earn money. this is because being a busker it is not guaranteed that u will earn money, as when you are busking many of the people might just ignore you and walk away. there would not be anyone watching your performance and donating money to you. there was a time that it was covid-19 and many buskers was not allowed to busk as they would create a crowd that may lead to making covid-19 worst. therefore, during that period of time many buskers didn't make money and it was a difficult time for them.

the other drawback of being a busker is that many people might look down on buskers and calling them beggars and other stuff that might ruin they mental health. this will then affect their mental health as being a busker really need alot of confidence and courage. they will then feel sad and depressed and somethings also very stressed if they heard negative feedbacks from people. hence, it will be difficult for them to ever busk again. they will also not make any money if they never busk again.

there was one time where i went overseas together with my family, as we were walking down the streets there was many buskers busking in the same area. there was one busker busking alone and there was another busker busking together with his friend. most of the people was crowding around the busker that is busking with his friend. while the other busker has no people watching his performance, i feel really sad for him as he took time to busk but no one is watching his performance. i feel that everyone should support each other as a country.
