When daylight savings starts, we spring forward one hour because the days are getting longer, so instead of the sun setting at some weird time like 9:00, the sun will set at 8:00 during summer hours. When daylight savings ends, we get an extra hour, because the Earth's tilt changes from the northern hemisphere facing the sun more to the southern hemisphere facing the sun more. So when daylight savings ends, instead of the sun setting during the winter hours at a really early time like 4:00, the sun sets at 5:00.
