confronting racism is not about the needs and feelings of white people. I think one main takeaway I got out of this photo was how it is a black woman working in the photo. It says a lot about racism and white supremacy in today’s generation.

Whitewashing, which is a sort of reverse racebending, in film occurs when a character that was originally written for a person of color is portrayed by a white actor/actress. One example that the author uses to represent this is by talking about 2 jars of jellybeans. One jar is overflowing while the other is mostly empty. Then, the jar containing the lesser amount of jelly beans is then taken from. I have watched all the Marvel movies multiple times, and would consider myself a decent fan. However, I only knew Nick Fury as a powerful Black man in charge of the Avengers and running SHIELD. Recently though, I found out in the original comics he was written as a white man. It only was race-bent about 20 years ago when the writers decided to base Nick Fury off of Samuel L. Jackson in the Marvel Ultimate series. After that, the actual Samuel L. Jackson was cast as Nick Fury to make a cameo at the end of Iron Man, and being a main character ever since. To my knowledge there was not much opposition because it was the beginning of the Cinematic Universe, and many people did not know any better.
