When planning her marketing, Asha believed that her primary market research was more useful than her secondary market research. Do you agree with her? Jusitfy your view.

I agree with Asha that her Primary Research is more useful to her than the Secondary Research she has obtained.

My reason for this is that by completing Primary Research Asha will be able to focus on what she needs to know. This can be the types of colours that would be most appealing, such as primary colours, along with patterns and the prices people would be willing to spend. By having this information Asha will be able to arrange her business and designs in a way that would be best suited for her target market of women aged 15-29.

The reason that Secondary Research may not be best for Asha is that it will not be focused on what she needs to know in order to be able to survive as a small business. The Secondary Research Asha has got is focused on how the Store and Internet sales are likely to change over the coming years. Although this information will be helpful for Asha in the long-term scope, this will not help her to survive from the offset.

However, Secondary Research is often beneficial for new businesses as it will have been done by successful and experienced businesses that will have already passed the starting issues. The reason that using experienced research would be beneficial for Asha is that it is not one of her strengths and so her Primary Research could likely be inaccurate for the whole market and so her sales will be very limited.

Secondary market research is the collection of data that already exists. Asha used a magazine article to gather information on the growth of online sales and the fall of store sales between 2009 and 2011. This data could have been more useful, however Asha had already decided to sell her product completely online; taking her fixed costs of £72000 for 2014 into consideration, it is unlikely that she would have changed her mind anyway and incurred extra costs for rent of premises. Taking this into account I would not consider her secondary market research to be of much if any use at all.

Asha's primary market research involved a survey of 200 women aged 15 to 29 which was her target market. This was already a big improvement as the secondary research data was not taken from her target market exclusively so it may not be indicative of the market The findings gave Asha a good idea of the general tastes and wants of the target market, this would allow her to focus her time and resources in designing only products she knew there would be a high demand for. The focus group reinforced this as they provided more detailed information about specific preferences.

In conclusion I agree that Asha's primary research was more useful than her secondary research as it was unable to influence any of her future decisions whereas primary research undoubtedly was able to.

Primary research - the collection of data that does not already exist and is carried out by the individual who wants the market research for a specific reason

Secondary research - the collection of data that already exists, is carried out by the individual and is for a different purpose.

Market research is vital to a business, the secondary research that asha has collected is out of date (2009-2011) whereas her primary research; she did in May 2014, however her secondary research collected showed a 5% increase in online sales, so if I follow conventions and predict another 5% increase from 2011-2012, and an increase of 8%per annum (line 21) - online sales have been predicted to increase from 70% in 2011 to 91% in 2014. This substantial increase of 21% means Asha can base her business online, this reducing fixed costs as there is no need for a shop as customers are willing to buy directly from the Internet (line 29). As the data is old she can check to see if the predictions of Vintage Fashion Magazine were correct. If so, then she knows the data is reliable.

Her own primary research supports the theory of shoppers and tastes. This research is tailored to her own needs, however a sample size of 200 doesn't represent the whole market.

Both primary and secondary research are important to Asha as they both give benefits. The secondary helps Asha with forecasts whilst her primary helps Asha wit her product designs. There is an unreliability in the secondary as it is dated and markets are always changing, whilst her primary could've been biased as her focus group was with. 5 of her friends (line 23)

Primary market research is data that a person has collected themselves. I agree with Asha and think that primary market research was more useful.

One reason I think this is because her survey sample was not specific to females aged 15-29 meaning that it may be unreliable. Her secondary market research data has the possibility of becoming outdated as it was done in 2012 as opposed to the Primary market research which was done in 2014. Outdated research could in turn mislead the direction of Asha's business and result in her making a loss. However, the secondary market research was easier to obtain as it is data that already exists therefore she would not have to waste vital time and money collecting it. She is also a startup business meaning that she cannot afford to waste vast amounts of money or time on research.

Figure 1 also noted hat if asha was to sell online, it would help her in the release of new designs. It also shows that the market for Uk's vintage clothing was expected to grow meaning that asha could expect to make a profit overall I feel that primary market research was more useful than secondary market research.

Primary market research is data that is collected first hand by the firm or the entrepreneur. Secondary market research is data that has already been collected.

Personally I do agree with Asha and this is because of many different reasons. Firstly the secondary market research data is heavily outdated by atleast three years whereas her primary market research was conducted in May 2014 meaning it is more current and up-to-date essentially meaning it will be of more use to Asha. Another reason I would give the upper hand to the primary research is because the secondary market research doesn't fully focus on Asha's target market of females between the age of 15 and 29.

Furthermore, the brilliance of Asha's own primary research is far more superior as her survey of 200 women aged between 15 and 29 perfectly matches her target market and her sample size is suitable for a startup business like Asha's. Moreover, the primary research conducted by Asha provided very useful data on what types of vintage fashion was most popular and it also provided data on the demand levels on the Internet would be as that is Asha's main way of selling garments.

Finally through her primary research Asha was able to determine her most probable selling price through the aid of Terence and also she could predict the total revenue forecast more reliably as she could figure out the predicted volume of sales.

Primary research is market research that involves the collection of data that does not exist. Secondary research is the the collection of data that already exists.

Asha's primary research used her own experience in the industry and survey of women in the nearby town. This gave her an understanding of what her customers wanted. A focus group gave her a first hand input in the taste of her customers (personal taste) this would not have been achieved with secondary research.

However her secondary research gave her statistical data which would be useful when dealing with finance and forecasts. Also her primary information was from limited resources and may have been bias as she only looked at one focus group form the same area, this would not help a business that wishes to venture into the on-line market which reaches a wider range of customers.

Asha's knowledge of the industry gave her a reasonable understanding of many features of the market. However her research seemed to be very restricted having focused on a small group of people from the same area which would give a possibility of bias results, reducing its reliability. Although her research was limited it did build on the good level of understanding that she had acquired before and therefore she knew the market well.

Primary market research is the process of planning, analysing and collecting data yourselves whereas secondary research takes data already in existence.

One of the main factors that suggested that the primary research was more useful than the secondary research is that it came in May 2014 whereas the secondary research was taken in January 2012. This was important in Asha's businesss where trends and popularity can change all the time, so outdated research would not be relevant to her and may of caused her to setup her business in the wrong direction.

Her primary market research also gave detailed information on her target market of females between 15 and 29 years old, especially as she was targeting a niche market, the requirements had to be met to survive and create a successful business whereas the secondary research was not as precise as it gave information of females of all ages, meaning that it was a general trend in the market and was not as relevant to herself.

Also, her primary research provided a clear cliteria that 87% would be willing to buy off the internet and that 60% of her 200 people survey would restrict their wardrobe to 2 or 3 vintage items. This would be extremely useful for her as it provided clear guidance from future customers whereas the secondary market research only included figure work of the market as a whole.

However, her secondary research did convince her that the online market is growing as well as being able to release their designs more frequently. This suggests that the 200 people survey was not enough to decide how the business should be run on an online scale as the local findings was just a limited scale.

Overall, I would agree that the primary research was more useful as it gave detailed data that helped her shape her business and it may have been the motivation she needed to startup her business. However, her secondary research was useful as it gave her a good indication on the growing market but it did not say much about how she should be part of the growing market.

primary research is when the entrepreneur conducts the research themselves. Asha's primary research was conducting the survey in her local town center and the focus group with her five friends. On the other hand secondary research is using information which is already available to you. Secondary research for Asha was the magazine article with the information on online sales.

I do agree that Asha's primary research was more useful than her secondary research because it was more focused on what she wanted to look at. Also she could find out what sort of things she should sell and as appose to where she should sell them which is what her secondary research told her.

her primary research told her what sort of fashion she should focus on, this is helpful for her because this way she wont be making garments which are not going to contribute towards her fixed costs, she also found out how people would prefer to buy their garments, most people were willing to buy directly from the internet however most people would prefer to buy from a shop.

Overall i think her market research was very successful and was helpful to her, i do think that the primary research was more useful because it was more specific to her target market as a appose to the whole market.

Primary research is the process of gathering data that doesn't already exist whereas secondary research is looking at data that already exists. I agree that her primary research was more useful than her secondary research because it let get ask much more specific questions that show their clothing preferences and tastes as well as they're preferred era of clothing. The secondary research only showed that the amount of physical store sakes were decreasing and online sales were increasing. This didn't show her any other details and would only help her decide her business format. It didn't help in choosing the products she would sell. Also, the secondary research was out of date and from a source that wouldn't necessarily have access to a wide range of sales statistics making the results unreliable. Her primary research let her narrow her results down to her target market meaning that her results would be specific to what she wants to know.

Primary Market research is data collected first-hand for a specific purpose. Secondary Market research is data that has already been collected for a different purpose.

I believe that Asha's primary market research was more useful in terms of in-date and newer data (2014), the secondary market research was old and out of date (2009-2011). This helped her provide the products that customers would be interested in now. This is very important for her type of business (vintage fashion), since fashion changes all the time, there are things people wouldn't wear in this day of age.

In addition, Asha's primary market research focuses on her specific target market (women ages 15-29). On the other hand, the secondary market.r she gathered from a "Magazine article" didn't focus on her target market, but gave a more general form of data. It was a good idea to conduct a survey, so that she can ask her potential customers more direct and relevant questions that could help her make some important decisions; like what to sell and how to sell it in order to reach a good level of success.

Instead it is a bit more broad targetting 'females' who could be any age, therefore not as spefic. The secondary research is also dated 'January 2012' which means it is 2 years old therefore not as reliable especially in the fashion industry with rapid changes in trends. Her primary research is upto date and shows Asha the demand of her customers. Not only does her primary research represent her target market segment (females aged 15-29) but it can also be applied and relate to Ashas online business.
