<title>	One of the most interesting things I have learnt so far in this course is how the core function of the police is coercion. In the execution of their duties, the police may have to use coercion or force to achieve their objective. I believe that if the public views the police as a legitimate body, they are more likely to comply with the instructions of law enforcement which leads to less of a need for the law enforcement officer to use force against them. Sadly, there have been law enforcement officers who jump to using their coercive force against minority groups in encounters that do not call for coercion at that level which leads to a distrust of the police. This drags decent law enforcement into these conflicts whereby they now are forced to use coercive force in situations they would not have had to before. This is because of the law enforcement officer being delegitimized by the actions of a few bad apples among their ranks. To reset things, I think the public should start giving the law enforcement officers the benefit of the doubt and comply with their instructions so that they wouldn’t have to use coercion to get the job done. If an officer uses unnecessary coercion, they should be reported to their superiors as opposed to the public reacting negatively to all other officers. </title>
