Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist who refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her defiance sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Its success launched nationwide efforts to end racial segregation of public facilities.

She's an iconic figure of the fight against the racial segregation in the USA.

On December 1, 1955, Parks was arrested for refusing a bus driver's instructions to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She later recalled that her refusal wasn't because she was physically tired, but that she was tired of giving in.

The following night, fifty leaders of the African-American community, met at the Baptist Church to discuss the actions to be taken to the following the arrest of Rosa Parks. They founded the Montgomery Improvement Association, He popularized the theories of non-violence and civil disobedience there. The movement has three immediate demands:

- That white and black people can sit where they want on the bus;
- That the drivers be more courteous to everyone;
- Black drivers to be hired.
