Students are engaged in the activity more than they are listening to a "how to complete" from an instructor.
Interest in the activity is generated by allowing the students to create their memoir in Google slides and letting them "decorate" and edit their presentation they way they prefer.
Students are self motivated. They have an objective and that is to share a message with their peers and get it done creatively so that it is displayed and read by everyone.

Grades 1-7 at Coonley School were asked to sum up their entire school year using only 6 words. Their prompts were then displayed in a Power Point presentation to be shared amongst their peers.

Reflective Questions: By providing prompts that are more "reflective", the students can now take more time to think through their experiences (for the current year) and give more thought to their own process before putting just any words down on paper.
Students can start out with listing adjectives to describe their school year at Coonley to help their refrain from using basic ones such as "really fun, the best, so awesome etc."
Model the use of Google Slides: There are so many cool features within Slides that will allow students to be more creative when presenting visuals for their memoirs.
Evaluate the learning objectives to determine if those were met and if the activity was successful.
Provide rubric for assignment that way it allow for creativity and active learning but also meets the learning objectives.

-If students are non-verbal, you can provide a Core Board (pictured below) so students can communicate their answers via pointing

-If students have limited language, they can be given 3-4 pre-selected options to choose from

-Students with limited language or who are non-verbal can use an Augmentative Communication Device to present their answer
