An isokinetic contraction happens when the muscle contracts and then shortens at a constant rate, this contraction is not common however and can only be created by using specialized equipment. The benefit of using this type of contraction is that targeted muscles gain strength evenly. Isokinetic training is expensive however so therefore not many gyms are able to provide the equipment. An example of this contraction is on a static bike that responds to the user. This type of training is only really used during rehabilitation by doing actions such as swimming or being on an exercise bike

Pros- this helps because the body can move and be more flexible and as a sportsman this is important because it gives you less chance of getting injured by going for a tackle or a keeper trying to save a shot.
cons- If you over flex the muscle you can pull the muscle to cause an injury this can effect you as a performer because you could be out for a long time with muscle strains, tears and pulls.
