The third quartile is three quarters of the list so in our list that makes it 54.52. The median is a measure of the central tendency. It represents fifty percent of the observations. So in our data set this number is 31.27 Meaning is the center value of spend $31.27 on groceries with the data we were given. The first quartile is one quarter of the list which is 17 so 25% of the people surveyed spend $17 or less at the grocery store. The minimum is the smallest number in the set meaning that the minimum people spend at the grocery is $2.32. The mean is the most common, or average, of the set of numbers. It is the central tendency of the list. This means that the average amount of money people spend in the store is $38.45. The standard deviation is 28.322 for the box and whisker chart. This is the square root of the variance, which is the measure of how much the amounts of data are going to differ from the mean. Since this is the square root of the variance in our data it is how much the data can differ. With our data the amount spent on groceries differs by $28.32.

The histogram's shape resembles a column chart. It is not symmetrical. A box and whisker's chart is a box with lines, whiskers, that extend from the box and outwards. The spread of the two

charts is the maximum and the minimum. The center for the box plot is the middle line inside of the box. The center for the histogram is the average.

It looks like typical chart. The histogram is skewed to the right and it has outliers that you can see more clearly. It is more specific. A box and whisker chart is a little more unconventional. It is a box that has lines, whiskers, that extend outwards. It has the same information, but is more difficult to look at and understand. This gives you a more general range of information rather than being specific.

How far the lines extend depends on the maximum and minimum. The two charts are the same in that they share the same data, but the way they are presented makes them different.
