He currently works as a chauffeur through out the play. Walter is too worried about becoming rich and making a name for himself, that it a little too much for his own good. He wants to be able to provide material necessities and even luxuries for his wife Ruth and his family, but the way that he tries to go about that dream, is a little unrealistic.

This is shown when Walter says "“You all always telling me to see life like it is. Well… I figured it out. Life just like it is. Who gets and who don’t get. Mama, you know it’s all divided up. Life is. Between the takers and the “tooken.”(p. 141, 142) He is telling Mama that he will do what ever it takes for him to get what he wants, and he would take any opportunity that was handed to him. He wanted to own a liquor store with his friend, and he believed, that through his business idea, he will suddenly accumulate all the money he will ever need. The reason being is because since his world seems to revolve around money and materialistic things, it causes a lot of problems for him. There are so many things going on in Walter's head but he tries to focus on his family and the money, and not show them how hard it is hurtling him and his self image. Oh to be wealthy and famous living in a big house by the sea
With a Rolls Royce in my garage of money worries quite free
Seen as a successful person with heaps of money to spend
Everyone would want to know me everyone would be my friend.

I could help the poor and needy for others I could do good
I could help you out then poor fellow instead of saying I would help you if I could
Money it speaks every language pity the poor and downtrod
Surely there is nothing greater than money the great paper god.

I could do wonders with money help those in dire poverty
Be an example to others to worthy causes donate generously
Instead I struggle for survival one of the poor of our Street
Life for me an uphill battle struggling for to make ends meet.

Oh to be wealthy and famous the wealthiest man in the Town
I could be generous with money help those financially down
Instead I am just a poor battler who would wish to be my friend
I who must be careful with money and count every dollar I spend? 

I believe this poem goes with Walter, because it tells about how the person would have no worries if they were to be rich. I related this to Walter, because he is always saying that his life would be better if he was to have money to spend on his family and himself. This made me think of Walter immediately. The reason being is , because throughout the book, Walter is worried about how strapped he is with money and the problems his has been faced with paying them. The reason why I chose dreams is, because the characters and especially the one I chose (Walter) have dreams that they want to accomplish. A quote that goes along with Walter and is dreams is “What’s the matter with you all! I didn’t make this world! It was give to me this way! Hell, yes, I want pearls ‘round my wife’s neck. Ain’t she supposed to wear no pearls? Somebody tell me—tell me, who decides which women is suppose to wear pearls in this world. I tell you am a man—and I think my wife should wear some pearls in this world!” p. 143
I believe this matches the theme best because it is telling about how, one of Walter's dreams is to be able to buy Ruth material things. Yet, everyone really has a dream, Mama and Ruth want a bigger house and Beneatha wants to become a doctor, and they are all trying to find ways to accomplish these dreams.

The reason why is because Rose tells Troy that she dropped all her dreams and wishes, because she was so in love with him, but he didn't do the same. The sacrifice 
 part really come in when he betrayed Rose and cheated on her with this random woman named Alberta, and ended up getting her pregnant and having a baby girl. Then Corey threw his dreams of playing college football away, and ended up going to the Marines. The theme dreams is shown in Fences when Cory tells his parents that he wants to play football, but Troy is being selfish and over protective and holding him back form doing so. This relates to RITS when Walter tells Beneatha that she isn't going to become a doctor and should worry about finding a man with money to marry. To Troys does not want Corey to become a football player, because he does realize that time has changed and that Corey could be treated fairly on the football team. Troy doesn't want either of his sons to be like him, he doesn't want them in sports, he doesn't't want them picking up trash, he wants them to make a life for themselves. When Walter wanted to invest in the liquor store, no one thought it was a good idea, and everyone is holding him back, but he kept pushing, and it ended up costing him everything.
