Lucy, who has been homeschooled her entire life doesn't understand what there is for her to learn outside of her home. While she is not used to going outside of her comfort bubble, and while she may already have her whole life mapped out, she may learn through the choices she is forced to make that she may have made some miscalculations.

Since she was born the words that people choose to describe Elyse show up on her arms and legs. While this was fine as a baby, many of those words have gotten meaner as she's gotten older. Now 12 years old, and as the friends she's been able to make begin to go their separate ways, she receives a note reading  "I know who you are, and I know what you're dealing with. I want to help." While trying to find the person who wrote the note, Elyse must also learn to become the best version of herself by making the choice to accept who she is.

As child the narrator shows grown ups a picture of a snake that has eaten an elephant to which the grown ups believe that he has drawn a hat, and tells him to stop bothering with such nonsense. The narrator soon gives up on drawing until he's all grown himself and meets the little prince. The little prince reminds him about his choices to see the things that are invisible to grown ups. Once the little prince disappears the narrator decides that a little magic in his life is something he never needed to outgrow.
