I would rate The Giving Tree a 5/5. This book is a classic which teaches children a very strong yet underlying message about greed and giving. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a child and of course my colleagues and fellow aspiring teachers. It is a great book to use for promoting generosity and kindness in the classroom. It teaches students that life isn't about solely what we receive, but also what we give. It shows how small gestures can make a significant impact in the life of others.

There are only two characters in the giving tree, the boy and the tree.

The boy loves the tree very much and appreciates her dearly. Especially throughout his childhood when he still enjoyed playing and the sweet and humble nature which was encompassed by the company of the tree.

The tree loves the boy very much as well. It is very easy to make the argument that the tree loves the boy far more than he'll ever love her in return. The tree sacrifices every part of her to ensure that the boy is happy. Seeing him happy is extremely rewarding and fulfills her happiness.

Photo: https://weheartit.com/entry/76738960

The giving tree is a story of a very generous tree and a boy. The boy always comes to the tree either wanting or needing something. In the beginning of the story the boy needed the tree as a means of having fun, a place to relax, and a supporting friend/shoulder to lean on. As the story progresses the boy ages, the boy loses that childlike spark and begins to seek all of the aspects of adulthood. The tree gives her apples so that he can sell them and make money. Later, She gives him her branches so he can build a home. Lastly, she gives her trunk. So that he can build a boat and travel the sea. Once the boy has grown into an old man, he returns to the tree. He no longer wants or needs anything. He just needs his place to sit an think in the company of the tree. This is the greatest gift the tree could receive. Though he never says thank you, his return to what was once a tree and is now a stump shows his appreciation for the tree and all of her gifts.

Photo: https://www.slideshare.net/KennethCarnesi/thegivingtree-110602182730phpapp01
