Revealing Dialogue - COA Independent by Christine Bagnall

Look through the chapters you have read in your novel so far. Choose a piece of DIALOGUE (a conversation between two or more people) that you feel reveals something important about your character's personality. Post the conversation (with page #) and explain what you learn/infer about the character based on this conversation.

This piece of dialogue shows me a lot about the wild things AND Max. I learn that the happiness of the wild things is very dependent on Max and they are in need of a leader and a caretaker. I learn that their way of having fun is only temporary and does not bring them meaning that lasts. I learn that Max has come to realize what is really important to him - his family.

So, whatever Clay did to Hannah, even if he doesn't know it his self, he doesn't want anyone to find out. He willing to lie to his Mom in what he's doing to just keep it a secret, then lose their trust, even if it may not even be that bad.

In the book "Trouble" by Gary D. Schmidt, Henry and his father have a "conversation" about Black Dog. "'Why did you ever bring that dog in here? Look at her. Who wants a black dog like that? Lying there, all beat up. Bleeding. Pieces of her missing.' He stopped... 'Pieces of her missing,' he said again. His body trembled..." (pg 24) This is a connection between the black dog and Henry's brother, Franklin, who is currently in the hospital after getting hit by a car. His arm is missing, and there are pieces of black dog missing, which reminds the father of his injured son. This reveals that Henry's father is very emotional when it comes to subjects such as his son, even if it is not addressed directly. Many people think that fathers are always the tough, strong ones, but Henry's father has a soft spot for his son, which most fathers have too.

Page 82 - ""I'm so sorry about your son Franklin," she said. "Every day we pray for him." "Thank you," said Mrs. Smith, cold as one of those marble pillars holding up the courthouse ceiling. "We do to."
"My son too," Mrs. Chouan said softly. She began to cry. Louisa fled the courthouse lobby. Henry watched his mother. He watched as she almost yielded. Ashe almost leaned down into Mrs. Chouan. She almost began to weep herself. Two mothers. But his mother hardened, and she moved away from Mrs. Chouans hand. She turned and left the lobby."

I chose this quote because it truly shows what kind of person his mom is. It showed her true colors and made me rethink what I thought about his family. This makes his mom look mean and even heartless.
