In order to radiate that excitement to share ideas with our students, we believe that we must make them feel comfortable and ready for the content they will be presented with. Also, to take into consideration the type of learning preferences the students prefer and implement those into a positive learning environment. This type of environment will impact our teaching by showing us whether the students truly do not understand the content or it is because of the learning environment they are put under. Canceling out the option of it being the learning environment, because we have accommodated it to their preferences, leads us to believe it is the content they are struggling with. As for future EC-6 Bilingual educators, these accommodations can be met for ELL, ESL, etc. students. Low-income schools, like the one in this video, showed how incorporating technology was a great resource for the students. You can tell in the video how excited they looked to use technology in the school setting and this made them very engaged as well.

Looking at the chapter about “What is an learning environment?” This is overall a good summary yet, it lacks more qualities on what a classroom is about. The given information is true on how we should make the classroom be based around culture with learner characteristics, assessments, content, skills, resources, and learner support. I also agree with the chapter on how a teacher may be or have less control in one characteristics but, can have a more powerful control in another characteristics. Each of the characteristics should be more defined as in for resources, technology can be more descriptive on the different types of technology like laptops, tablets or even phones. In addition, in today’s classroom many children come from different backgrounds to where many children does not know English. It is important to another characteristics which includes the background of students with their native language. Plus, the graph does not include students with disabilities or any conditions to where that becomes again missing a big characteristic in the overall graph.

A classroom that has positive classroom management is a successful one. Positive classroom management requires creativity in the classroom, but when that is mastered it allows the classroom to become changed into a dynamic setting. Teachers play a big role in positive classroom management because they are there to help the children understand what is going on. Students also play a big role because once they are engaged, they are able to collaborate back and forth with the teacher to make the classroom environment a fun and engaging one. This is what positive classroom management should look like an engaging and rich environment between the teachers and the students. One message that I feel positive classroom management is trying to send is to treat others you want to be treated. For example, if you, the teacher, model ideal behavior for your students, then your students will take your behavior into consideration and model it as well.

This software, especially during a pandemic, allows for students to collaborate with each other safely. We, as educators, know that students learn from themselves as well. Microsoft Teams keep this learning "ladder" in place even through there are safety precautions everyone needs to follow nowadays. In terms of the teaching aspect, the video mentioned it perfectly. It allows us, the teachers, to provide instant feedback, or view peer to peer interactions in real time. Microsoft Teams also allows for the sharing of apps and easily accessible documents and files from anywhere in the world. This software takes instruction to the next level. In our curricula, essay writing is something crucial, Microsoft One Note, makes this much easier in this digital age because of the editorial features, and sharing features with the teacher, instructor, and/or professor.

The thought that occurred in my head after every video I watched and article I read about virtual classrooms was “I wish they would’ve had that when I was in school.” That’s the reaction lessons should have on students! The “I want to do that!” saying or reaction means the students are going to enjoy the learning experience whether they know they’re learning or not. The fact that these apps (which I thought were only games) can be used for more than just entertainment purposes is an outstanding discovery. We know kids love technology, who are we to take all of that away and say paper and pencil is the only way? Using virtual worlds connect to all the ideas listed on pg. 52. Now, the teacher can work with and know their students better by creating Bitmoji's, introducing virtual lessons, and providing a more accessible access to school/classroom resources. A classroom environment that is diverse, flexible and rich in resources is one that will have a better outcome in success within the student and teacher.

We agree with the author. We know teachers need to set high expectations for their students because they are very capable of handling challenges (expectations cannot be too difficult either) and since every student have different skill levels, they shouldn’t be treated as a whole but instead like individuals. This is why the ladder is important because it gives an opportunity for every student to grow no matter what level they are at. We do believe Microsoft Teams allows that to transpire because it’s an open ended application which allows for students to contribute no matter the skill level for each person.

As a secondary English classroom, the most compelling content to me would be learning about new texts and making authentic connections. As humans, we strive to make connections with things that are familiar to us. When reading texts, we tend to look for connections within characters or within experiences in the texts. In order to excite students to learn and come up with their own ideas, teachers should formulate lesson plans to include authentic assessments. When students make connections to texts, there is a high level of engagement taken place in the classroom and students feel included.

Another thing to help students get excited to learn and formulate their own ideas, is to provide different methods of teaching. Because students have different preferences, teachers have to realize that not one size fits all. In the Flipped Classroom video, one of the educators had different groups set up, each assigned by the students’ preferences, and it was able to improve test scores by over 20%.

Having this kind of differentiated environment, makes students feel included and allows students to collaborate with others that learn the same as them, allowing students to build off of each other. Authentic assignments and differentiated instruction, are methods that should be applied in all classrooms because they are both effective and enjoyable for students.

The answer to this question is somewhat obvious, the differences between the students of today from those from the past is the level of technology. Now technology is more accessible for them and they are being exposed to such things from a very young age. We need to take into consideration all of the students learning preferences, and take into consideration the amount of technology to implement into the classroom/their learning. Things like Ipads and laptops can be accessible to all students when in the classroom, and maybe rented for them to take home.

With everyone stuck at home and masked up, it was extremely difficult to make a personal connection with anyone, but teachers began using bitmoji classroom for the visual aesthetic for students to see what their classroom would look like with customized avatars of their teacher and peers. Although we found the bitmoji classroom a little boring as time went on, the connection to being able to be used immediately and the somewhat relevance to students, personal, and familiarity was there but it doesn’t offer much for student growth.
