Having fled Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge genocide, Kalyanee returns to landscapes transformed by deforestation, industrialisation, and development. Through her camera,and through intimate relationships with the people and places she documents, she begins to awaken an ancestral memory of belonging, and a renewed understanding of what it means to know the “taste of the land.”

Hantao Li's Giants' Anatomy envisions a speculative journey for decommissioned North Sea oil platforms through this liminal landscape, combining real world footage with Computer-generated Imagery to explore their potential afterlife. At times as absurd as it is strikingly plausible, the film plays with notions of truth and reality while asking us to consider all possible futures.

2. Reading Climate Festival 2026 is calling for applications for event proposals between the 6 and 21 June 2026. Applications close Thursday 9 April 2026.

   'Be part of the movement to inspire and enable a healthier, happier, more connected and climate-friendly Reading.'

The heart of the film is a profound exchange between a traveling young man and a 103-year-old elder. When the traveler questions the village's conscious choice to live without electricity, the elder’s response is a masterclass in perspective:

"But what about lights?"

"We've got linseed oil and candles."

"But night's so dark."

"Yes. That's what night is supposed to be."

It was filmed in Daio Wasabi Farm, Azumino, Japan, chosen for its network of crystal clear streams, and lush greenery; but to recreate his dream, Kurosawa had several watermills built (of which three remain today) along the largest stream.

The Turning Point' explores the destruction of the environment, climate change and species extinction from different perspective.
