Both Leopardi and Wordsworth personify natural elements (Leopardi’s moon and Wordsworth’s rainbow) and consider nature central to their poetic inspiration.

They both give great importance to youth, as the age of hope and illusions. They both speak about an intense personal experience in these poems and describe the different stages of human life.

While Leopardi perceives the human existence of an adult as being delusion of joy and real sorrow, Wordsworth considers the child the guide to man since he is unspoilt by civilization and closer to nature. Leopardi’s nature is indifferent to man’s suffering, it is only a witness to it (lines 23–30). On the contrary Wordsworth believed in the interaction between man and nature as a source of pleasure and joy.
