Period 1
Ms. Clark
Written question:

Whales effect our climate so much because they do many tings. Their poop fertilizes the algae and they bring plankton to the surface. When the plankton is at the surface it takes in carbon dioxide. This will decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. Humans efect this cycle thog because humans kill whales and eat fish. They also produce carbon dioxide and this causes pollution. If humans stopped killing whales maybe whales could solve pollution. This could overall save humanity. This is how whales change climate.

Whales not only eat the fish in the ocean, they also keep them alive. Whales help sustain the entire living system or the ocean. Whales feed at depth and then rise to the surface to the photic zone. There they release fecal plumes that contain iron and nitrogen. This fertilizes plankton that is found only in the photic zone. Whales also help by kicking all the plankton back into the photic zone by plunging up and down the water column which gives it more time to reproduce.

Scott Fukuda
Period 2
Group 8

Whales can change the environment because they indirectly draw carbon from the atmosphere. When whales were drawn from the ocean in an attempt to have more fish to catch, the results were shocking. Instead of rising, the population of fish fell. This was due to the fact that whales held up the ecosystem. When whales rose from the depths of the ocean, they would disperse fecal plumes. These fecal plumes fertilized the aquatic vegetation of the photic layer and they aided the plankton population as well. When the plankton are born, the whales churn them inside of the water, by shooting up out of the water over and over in an attempt to let the plankton have more time to reproduce. The plankton then draw carbon dioxide from the air and sink down into the depths of the sea, bringing the carbon dioxide with them! The climate can be affected by this change in carbon dioxide because carbon dioxide can increase the effects of global warming. With this change in carbon dioxide levels, the carbon dioxide molecules will not be a part of the greenhouse effect and global warming can be reduced. This could change the future and wellbeing of our planet.

Food chain: Whales change the climate because they release plumes (AKA poo) on levels of the ocean where photosynthesis can happen. When they release the plumes it captures lots of the carbon in the air which helps humans because we breath out carbon but it is not good for us to breath in carbon so whales are doing us a favor. Also, when there are more whales there are more krill because even though whales eat the fish and krill they also help them by producing plumes which makes photosynthesis which also creates algae which the fish eat and then the cycle starts over again. Whales also increase our food supply because they release plumes which releases plankton and fish and krill eat plankton so that makes more fish and more fish means we can kill more and not make them endangered so that means we can eat more.

Scientists thought that if they killed more whales, more fish and plankton will survive. They were wrong. Whales fed the photic zone. They brought algae and plankton to the photic zone where photosynthesis happens because of all the light. Their poo fertilized the plankton which fed the fish and krill. This algae also took carbon dioxide out of the air which helps the environment enormously. There will be less of a greenhouse effect and more animals will survive with the greenhouse effect reduced. Life will flourish and we soon we won’t have to kill as many animals for food. They will survive and we will be more likely to survive. Scientists are trying to fix that mistake they made and once they do, plants and animals will have a better chance of surviving.

The climate changes due to whales because they plunge up and down through the oceans surface. This allows the plankton to be kicked up to the photic zone, giving the plant plankton more time to reproduce before it sinks. The plant plankton also gets more time to pull in more carbon dioxide out of the air. They are responsible for pulling millions of carbon out of the air each year. Since carbon is taken out of the air, it changes the climate. Without whales, less carbon dioxide will be pulled out of the air and the weather will stay warm and global warming will continue.

Whales change the climate. This is because whales influence the ecosystem by releasing fecal fumes, which feed nutrients, and serves as a fertilizer to plankton and other plants in the ocean. Because whales move so much to the surface, it additionally gives the plankton time to grow and feed on the nutrients. The plankton then pulls carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, creating a drop in the temperature of the water.

The whales let out a substance called fecal plumes that have the nutrients of ion and nitrogen that’s very scarce in the ocean. These nutrients help all the animals and plants survive.

1. To summarize, whales eat plankton at the bottom of the ocean. Then, they rise up to the Photic Zone, where they poo. This poo is a kind of fertilizer, and allows plankton to grow a lot. The plankton creates animal plankton for the whales top eat, and at the same time, carbon dioxide is dragged out of its cycle in the air into the depths of the ocean. This affects the climate because without the carbon, more warmth can escape the atmosphere, and the climate can regulate.
2. Whales help our ecosystem and the climate because of its diet. They dwell in the lower, darker parts of the ocean, where there is no light. There, they eat krill. Then, the go to the Photic Zone, where there is enough light for Photosynthesis. There, they poo, a lot. That poo contains iron and nitrogen, a rare but healthy fertilizer in the ocean. Photosynthesis then occurs and plankton then appears. The plankton stays afloat, taking in carbon, and sinking to the darkest parts of the oceans, a place where the plankton and the carbon dioxide with it will remain there for thousands of years. Before this, whales kicks up the plankton so that it can collect as much carbon dioxide as possible. Therefore, whales do not lessen the amount of fish and krill in the ocean. Instead, they are the cause of why there is so much in the ocean. To summarize, whales eat plankton at the bottom of the ocean. Then, they rise up to the Photic Zone, where they poo. Scientists started to killed whales. When they did the fish and krill started to die out. Whales “poo” in the top of the surface of the water; this helps fertilize the ocean. Whales also jump up and down which helps bring the plankton to the surface. When this happens the planktons absorbs carbon. This way carbon gets taken out of the atmosphere which helps the atmosphere. The more whales there are, the mor plankton there is, the more plankton there is, the less carbon there is in the atmosphere. Over all whales help the earth’s atmosphere and the amount of plankton and sea animals in the ocean. The earth’s atmosphere helps humans. So whales help keep humans alive.

Whales change our climate, because they help produce more plankton. The plankton helps draw out carbon from the atmosphere. The plankton extracts carbon dioxide and reduces pollution in the atmosphere. The plankton is also made more rich and feeds the fish when it sinks.

People in china argue that whales are affecting our economy, but they really help us, they release something that’s called fecal plums which is them releasing there ‘matters’ into the oceans atmosphere. But you may wonder wouldn’t killing all whales be good? that would mean more food. But really when the population of whales disappeared so did the population of fish and krill. This happens because whales are actually helping our economy the more whales the more fish and krill. When whales release their` fecal matter into the ocean the fish and krill get released as well. The movement of the whale helps with the plankton and all other sorts of things in the ocean - when the whales swim up and down and causes the plankton to get a better chance—— —of getting into the photic zone, the photic zone is the area in the ocean that has the best sunlight, which helps the the plankton reproduce before sinking back deep down into the ocean. Plankton helps the animals in the sea live. Though the plankton takes down the carbon dioxide into the sea for thousands of years it doesn’t really interfere with them because it ends up dissolving.

Whales eta the fish in the ocean. Scientists in Japan thought that killing the whales would stop the fish from disappearing, but they actually disappeared more. The reason for this is becuase the whales help keep the food chain together. First, the whales come up to the sea and get the air in the water by creating poonami. The poonami leaves carbon from the air in the water. The carbon is important to fertilize the plankton. Also, the whales kick the plankton up so it has more time to fertilize before going to deep in the ocean. With well fertilized plankton, the fish have tons of food to eat. This is why without the whales, the whole food chain gets destroyed and the fish don’t have as much food to eat.

2. Whales change the climate. Whales change the climate by fertilizing plant plankton with their fecal plumes. Their fecal matter is rich in Iron and Nitrogen. They also kick the plant plankton upwards and back into the photic zone when they go up and down in the water. Since they are in the photic zone they reproduce more and more. When they are pushed up into the photic zone again and again, it gives them more time to reproduce. The plant plankton then absorbs carbon from the atmosphere and brings it down into the oceans. Carbon traps heat, so when carbon is taken out of the atmosphere, less heat will be trapped. Since less heat will be trapped, the climate will be cooler, which is a change in the climate.

Period 7, Table 6
Whales change the climate when they release their fecal plumes which fertilize the plankton plants which than allows the plankton to get more nutrients. When having more plankton it means more krill and fish which means more whales. When whales plunge up and down in the oceans water column they also kick back up the plankton which than has more time to reproduce. When the plankton rises to the surface it also collects the carbon dioxide from the air which than changes the climate.
