Pi, an extremely religious young boy (appositive), struggled greatly with feeling loved by his Gods all throughout the novel. However, after he discovers the true identity of the carnivorous island he decides to leave, feeling that “[he] preferred to set off and perish in search of [his] own kind than to live a lonely half-life of physical comfort and spiritual death on this murderous island” (285). From this pivotal moment in his journey, Pi finally develops enough complete confidence in his faith to put the rest of his life in the powers of the Gods. Pushing his fear to the side, leaving the comfort of the island behind him (participle), Pi reaches maturity and confidence in his identity. He developed immensly; therefore, growing his character greatly from the insecure and confused young boy from the beginning (semicolon; transition, comma).
