I asked her if it was okay and she said " Okay this shouldn't ruin your night." I was shocked, she let me go. I went but before I did I looked off my porch at him, he was packing. I ran over there and he opened the door, he told me sorry. I didn't know what to think, he said " President died, I can't stay I have to move back to Italy. I only came because he is my brother."

After we were released from school, I ran home to see my mother. My mother had been crying. I tried to comfort her but I could not because I only felt happiness for the study date at Eugene's house that I would soon be attending. My mother was angry at me for wanting to go out, but I had to. My mom told me not to go but I walked past her and out the door against her wishes. I was really nervous about knocking on Eugene's door, I even walked back into El Building, but I finally got enough courage to. When I knocked on the door, Eugene answered. I was really happy that it was him that answered, I don't know what I would've said if it were either his mom or dad. Eugene invited me and I noticed his mom and dad sitting in the living room, they didn't have their TV on, I actually wondered if they had heard or not, but then I heard them talking. "He's done it, his mission has been completed." said Eugene's father. This really confused me. Was what he said related to JFK's assassination? It couldn't be, Eugene's too nice. Eugene led me into the kitchen, the only room of his house I'd seen. While we were studying the only thing I could focus on was his parents talking in the other room, the more they said the more suspicious I felt. They kept saying the name Harvey Oswald, I know that I've heard that last name before, its Eugene's last name. That's when I asked Eugene what his fathers name was, he responded with "Robert." I decided that the things they were saying about the assassination were a little too exclusive to have already been released by the media. I told Eugene that I had to go, I packed my things and started for the door, when i heard his father say "Elena, you're leaving so soon." in a voice that send chills down my spine, I turned around to respond and he was standing there with a gun. "You've heard too much" he said. I started to scream when the police and S.W.A.T. team began rushing through the door. They put Eugene's mother and father in hand-cuffs. They brought Eugene to one of their cop cars and I haven't seen him since. I later found out that Eugene's uncle was the assassin that killed JFK.

On my way home, everything felt different. The streets were silent, with no one playing jump rope, writing on the sidewalks with chalk, no cars honking. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. When I walked in the front door I found mother sitting at the kitchen table with her back towards me. She turned around and her face was red with tears rolling down her soft face. "What's for dinner?" I asked. She told me "I am going to run to the store to get a big feast to celebrate President Kennedy's life." in a depressed voice. "Okay, I am going upstairs to do my homework" I said. I walked upstairs to find pink roses, my favorite, sitting on my desk, with a card next to it. It read "To my beautiful baby girl-Dad". He knows pink roses are my favorite flower. After admiring them, I took the flowers and put them in a vase with fresh water. I then realized that the country will never be the same again.

When I was walking home after school, I noticed a man looking at me from across the street. He was tall and muscular, his hoodie too small for him. I couldn't see his face but I could tell his intentions were not good. I started to walk faster but he started to follow me soon after. I could hear his jeans rubbing together and his heavy footsteps behind me. Fear took over my body, the fast walk soon turned into a full sprint, I dropped my backpack and hoped to slow him down. I turned a corner and saw a tree. I could no longer hear the man behind me, I ran towards the tree and hid behind it hoping that the man had not seen me. I took a minute to catch my breath, but my heart was still pumping like crazy. I got on my feet and looked around, but as soon as I was about to run off in the direction of my block, two big hands grabbed me from behind and I was thrown against the tree like a rag doll. At this point I was crying but just as I thought it couldn't get any worse I saw a white van roll up to the side of the road and two other men came out. I was grabbed and thrown into the van. I knew what was happening, I knew that I would never get another chance to see my mom. I tried to fight, I had to try. I struggled and managed to get my hands free. I grabbed a screwdriver and tried to stab one of them, but the man dogged it, took it out of my hand, and used it on me. I felt the screwdriver pierce my lung and I soon felt it hard to breathe. The van stopped, the door opened, and I was rolled out of the van and onto the hard concrete floor. I lay there slowly suffocating in my own blood. My vision started to go black, and I felt myself getting weaker and weaker. I felt a tear roll down my cheek, then everything went black.

After a short day of school, and walked into our apartment seeing my mother crying. I couldn't think straight about JFK's death, I could only think of going to Eugene's house. When I thought I was ready to leave, I tried to make myself look pretty with some makeup and see if I looked alright. I told my mom I was leaving to see Eugene but I haven't even tried to comfort her after the death of the president. She was so devastated that she let me go to Eugene's house. I thanked her and left to his house. Walking up to his door and my hands were shaking, I ringed their doorbell. No one answered, I rang and ranged the doorbell, but the house was empty as an empty box. It was dark outside and I heard a high pitched sound inside the house. The door of his house opened slowly but no one was there. I stepped inside and the door shut loudly behind me. I screamed for help but the door wouldn't open, I saw lights flickering in the kitchen. I knew it was the kitchen because I've watched them eat there. I started walking over there only to see something on the wall spelling, " RUN ". I ran and tried to break open a window but something grabbed me and pulled me into despair. I gave up trying to escape and everything stopped.

I wanted to make a hot pocket but i couldn't since she was on the microwave. Then i remembered that Eugene had invited me over. I told my mom I was leaving but she didn't care. I ran clutching my hot pocket and knocked on Eugene's door. His mother opened the door and I threw her out of the way and nuked the hot pocket. Eugene didn't know i was there yet so i went to his room and said hi. He came into the kitchen with me and we shared the hot pocket. We finished the hot pocket and went out to his yard to chill. They heard the taco truck and ran out to get 2 tacos. They weren't very good but they didn't care because it was a really ghetto taco truck so they were surprised they didn't get food poisoning from them. They remembered that JFK had died but they didn't understand why that was so important so they just ate food together for the rest of their lives.

After a half an hour of primping, I headed for the door. But my mother tried to stop me. She kept going on, and on about how it was a very bed choice, and she wanted me to stay with her. I was starting to get anxious, she was going to make me late. Not wanting to hear any more from her, I left , ignoring her cries of warning.
How could she ever think anything bad could really happen? As I climbed the steps leading to the door I had been waiting to enter for a long time, the anxious feeling returned. I knocked on the door, and Eugene's mom opened the door. I was baffled to hear that he wasn't home, but at the park. I didn't know what to do so I headed for the park. A thousand thoughts ran through my head, why had he gone to the park? Why didn't he tell me? I spent Quite a wile looking for him, right as I was about to leave, I spotted him across the park , I started to walk toward him, but I stopped abruptly when I saw who was with him. Another girl, much more pretty than I was. Something inside me told me, that it was just a old friend of his, but then he kissed her. Then I ran, I don't remember much, I was crying hard. I didn't go to school the next day, I had a broken heart to mend.

A Tragic Ending - Lucy Aronson

The presidents been shot. That phrase rung in my head for hours and hours after the gym teacher cried it out. I was on my way home from school after they sent us home and, though i was filled with tragic sorrow for the president and his poor family, I headed for Eugene's house where we planned to study. I hadn't even knocked yet when he opened the door and shoved me in. Just minutes before there was a warning of a serial killer that had escaped the nearby prison. Eugene's dad locked the doors and covered the windows. The house was dead silent. Eugene's mom rushed us over to the closet and locked us in. I heard something slice and Eugene fell to the ground gushing out blood from his neck. I turned around and seconds before i started to scream, I felt the cold blade against my neck. Pain. All i felt was pain. The more i tried to scream, the more blood came rushing from my neck. As i looked up i saw the cold unforgiving eyes of the killer, hollow. Clutching the bloody knife, he just watched as i slowly pareished.

When I got to Eugene's front door I straightened out my hair and my clothes. I knocked on the door softly, the door flew open and there stood a massive man wearing black. He looks at me with disgust, the man grabs my arm and pulls me in to the house. I see the kitchen I've wanted to sit in for years. we passed trough it quickly my arm now throbbing from him squeezing my arm so tight. We enter the living room I see both Eugene and his mother tried back to back laying on the floor. Eugene's mother dead, him barley breathing.I scream seeing all of her blood pooled around them. The man calmly grabs a fist full of my hair and slams me down to the hard floor, every thing goes black.

After the principal told us the president was shot I started on my way home. When I got back my mother was crying, I comforted her at first, later I told her I was planning to study with Eugene. My mother said "Okay be careful" and I went on my way. When I got to Eugene's house and I knocked on the door Eugene opened the door excitedly. Even after the death their house was full of acceptance for me. His mother and father were happy to meet me, they asked about a million questions. After I met everyone Eugene and I went to his room to study. He told me how he had seen me and knew that we were going to be great friends from the start. It was amazing how when everyone was having a bad day it was one of the best in my life. After that day we were best friends and studied for every test together, who knew that such a strong friendship would form on such a terrible day in history.

After hearing of the president's death, I started on my way home. It was quiet until I had walked into the front door. My mother was crying and I didn't know what to say or do, so I decide to walk past her to get myself ready for my meetup with Eugene. I got dressed and ready and left the house; my mother would figure out where I am. In just a short amount of time, I was standing on his front porch and knocked on his door; I was feeling very nervous waiting there. But finally, he had opened his door himself and kept looking back behind him like he was trying to hide something. He looked back at me and sighed. "I'm sorry Elena, but we can't study right now, my family is going through some...things." He shut the door on my face and I didn't know what to do until I finally started to walk home. I was crying on the way back and everything was silent, more silent than normal. After that meeting I saw his family go and move things around in the house until they even blocked the windows and backyard with a cover. I had never heard or saw him again...

The gym teacher walks out in a floral patterned Hawaiian shirt and had a margarita in hand, he told us that the president was shot. I had a hard time believing it, it sounded crazy to me, who would want to kill the best president of our time, even if he was our only president at the time. We were released early and I approached Eugene. I asked if he still wanted to study tonight, he said not today, he was gonna party with his parents. So I made my merry way home, not really, in fact I was beyond confused. People in the streets were partying and laughing, music cranked up loud as usual, but even crazier than usual, even the depressed people were laughing. I got home and I became even more scared. I start to begin to think I was the only one who even cared. I walked up to the building and up the stairs. I walk home and hear my mother laughing and crying of happiness. I ask her why she was celebrating, her reply shocked me. She said that "no one cared," and I was confused. She laughed and walked away. I began to cry of confusion. Soon after I climbed onto the fire escape and laughed, more out confusion more than anything else. It then began to get dark, I was up there for hours, after it was dark, I saw a clown walk out of a building. he laughed, he pulled a knife out at looked straight at me, I shivered. He then flew away into the night. Now it's been thirty years, and I saw him again. I am afraid, he may be following me, with that knife. I am now hiding, he is in my home, goodbye.

I picked up my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I looked around, as my peers started to flood the sidewalks, still a little confused on why Mr. DePalma made such an outburst. I waited awhile by the front of the school, hoping to walk home with Eugene, but he never came out. I assumed that I just missed him coming out and started home. But then I thought, usually he is the last one to come out, so it would be impossible to miss him. I turned around and started go walk back into the school. Eugene's sixth period was health, so I went to Mr. Figueroa's class to see what was taking Eugene so long. When I walked in, Eugene wasn't in there, it was only Mr. Figueroa. I said, " Was Eugene in here earlier?" "Yes, but he got picked up early by his dad," Mr Figueroa barely answered. I could tell that he had been crying. By then, my heart started to race. I started to run down the hallway and out the double doors. Eugene's dad wasn't a very calm person, so i wanted to get to his house before dinner. When arrived at El Building I heard a man yelling, followed by a series of quiet, but impactful thuds. I ran to Eugene's house and realized the sound had come from his house. I opened the door and saw Eugene lying on the floor with all over his face and running on the floor. No one else was in the house but him. I assumed it was his dad who beat him and fled. I started sobbing and fell to my knees. I instantly grabbed him by the shoulders and rested by hear on his chest. I couldn't hear a thing. I instantly felt ice could and could hear nothing but silence and the sound of my tears dripping on Eugene's cheeks. I just lied there with a thousand thoughts in my mind. I felt like the whole world was in tears.

Eugene had told me he didn't want to be my friend anymore. he says people only were teasing because he was my friend. he didn't want to be friends with "the skinny little brown girl".I was on the verge of tears. I didn't want to see anybody. I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted to roll up in a ball by the fire escape by myself and cry. But i knew couldn't do that. I didn't want to have to see Eugene sitting at his cozy table. with his light on because el building was blocking his light. I heard my mother crying over JFK's death. I walked over to her and cried. we were crying over different reasons. but i have never felt that close to my mother.

She looked pale, the kind of pale when you've been crying for hours. I felt bad i didn't know what was wrong and i just left her be. I chose a boy over my own mother and i feel so bad. I didn't know JFKs death would have impacted her or anyone as much as it did.
